SheaMoisture 8 oz Raw Shea Butter Extra-Moisture Detangler

When I bought this, I really needed something to detangle and get my hair back to a manageable level. It did that so well that I really don’t have to use this very often if I use my SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil hair mask regularly (once every week or two.) But if my hair gets knotted or feels particularly dry, I reach for this every time. It’s also super helpful for smoothing and refreshing your curls. Even when I don’t need to detangle, I will often get a small amount and smooth it over my curls before I start using any curl cremes. It prevents flyaways for me and it helps form my curls better. The only downside to this is the atrocious packaging. It is almost impossible to squeeze anything out of the tube. I had to either use both hands and squeeze product directly onto a clean surface or get my boyfriend to squeeze some into my hands. You can’t do the ketchup method to shake this out of the bottle. It’s super frustrating. Instead out of sheer desperation I took a pair of scissors and cut open my two bottles and scooped everything into a clean glass jar. I wish SheaMoisture would put this in a jar because it’s so much easier to use and you won’t squeeze out more than you need or get frustrated trying to get the small bit you need to smooth something down.I definitely recommend this but ditch the packaging. Using a jar makes the experience a 1,000 times better.

This product was not what I was expecting - the picture shows a white-ish, opaque substance so I thought it would be milky - similar to the consistency of regular conditioner. Instead, I got a rather thick, clear gel-looking substance. I got this product as more of a leave-in than strictly a detangler because I liked the ingredients and it had good reviews - and for that, it works great. I am Hispanic with mixed ancestry, like most of us, and despite my rather European appearance I was lucky enough to get my thick curly hair - large curls/ringlets somewhere between coarse and soft - and I wanted something that would hold my curls and just weigh the frizz down enough to not look like I go around brushing it while it's dry. I actually like that this product is very gel-like for that reason - it is not too oily and works to hold it throughout the day without acting like a crunchy gel or mousse, and because of the ingredients (and my experience with shea moisture as a brand) I know its good for my hair. My hair can take some product and oils, but I have to be careful not to get carried away because it can look a little greasy at the roots. All in all this product really works for me, and I would imagine strictly as a detangler it'd be great too because of the nice amount of slip to it. I do usually put other things in my hair besides this, whether it is my shea moisture shea butter conditioner or some other leave-in, but I can tell the difference this is making for sure.

It's not often that I post reviews, but I have only used this once and it already blew my mind! I have a 3 year old half black daughter with thick tight curls that HATES to have her hair brushed every day (bribery required) and rubs her head on her pillow while she sleeps/naps so she gets some horribly messy and nappy knots/tangles. We live in colorado so keeping her hair moisturized is also a huge challenge. Her knots were getting so big and bad that I was worried I was going to have to cut them out, until someone recommended I try this! I used it on her last night and was able to pick apart the knots easier than ever! It made her hair soft and slippery and it didn't feel dry and brittle like after most products I've tried. It has amazing slip! I used a little more than I probably needed to and thought her hair would actually be greasy in the morning but it wasn't it was soft and glossy (in a good way). It also smells great too, like a tropical vacation! I am going to buy the shampoo and conditioner too! I can't tell you how much money I have spent on product for my daughter's hair over the years, including $60 shampoo/conditioner from my stylist! I think we have finally found a winner! Thank you!!

So this product is very thick and hard to get out of the bottle. There are no instructions as to how much apply or for how long before I can detangle. I wait about 20minutes before detangling. It does a good job. Not the best product out there, but it’s decent. The thing is, it gives me crazy volume, softness, bounce and frizz. I don’t style it. I just put this on, wait 20 mins or so and detangle my hair. then I go about my day and let it air dry. I added a picture of what it looks like at the end of the day. Some parts have well defined curls and some are just frizzy. I don’t mind frizz and I like the volume. I am going to keep trying out other products before I settle on the best, but so far, this one is still in the running .

The product adds so much moisture to my hair. i noticed that my hair tangles badly after a wash. So I decided to start using it after I wash to keep my hair from tangling and it works. I love to use this product in combination with a product called "the conditioner" for wash and go's trust ME I have moisture for DAYS. Lately I use it on my hair after i wash it and also to moisture and seal with my tgin butter cream. My hair retains moisture for at least 2 days now. When as before my hair had to be moisturized every single day. Its true when you become consistent in a routine your hair becomes better, and starts to retain length and health. I'm being very consistent which is key for your hair goals. I will forever buy this stuff.
