Extreme Max 3006.6578 BoatTector Stainless Steel Anchor Lead Chain - 1/4" x 4' with 5/16" Shackles

This chain is not stainless steel. It doesn't look like the picture which appears to be a stainless steel chain. This chain looked to be galvanized and when I did the magnet test... yep the magnet slammed into it like any regular steel. It shows 316 stainless on the label but true 316 stainless steel should not have a strong magnetic attraction. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy because this is going back.

For this size chain and being stainless steel I think this is a great value. The two cleavus work well. I've bought about six of them and all of them have been the same quality. I have been using them for my floating dock chains poured in with the concrete dead man weights and also to connect around the wood pilings I installed to keep the dog from moving too much in heavy storms. After approximately 3 months and freshwater consistent voice changer I have not noticed any rust. I feel this chain is a little too light to use for an anchor chain.

I'm only giving this two stars because one of the shackle bolts keeps coming loose. I'm always afraid of losing my anchor. I'd recommend securing the shackle bolts with a piece of nylon, fishing line, or a zip tie even if you tighten it with pliers. One bump on a rock and oops! This method is not convenient for me as I have always stored my anchor and chain separate from my anchor rope. I paid twice as much for the fancy stainless chain and was expecting it to be trouble free for the extra money.

The packaging clearly states “Galvanized” but the chain, shackles and pins are in fact high quality stainless steel (very little ferris material detected). All links are welded and to spec. I am very happy with this chain and think it will be a perfect fit for my 14’ boat. Other than the misprinted packaging I see nothing wrong with this chain. It was a good choice.

Front of label sez "galvanized"; back of label sez "stainless"... don't worry, it IS stainless! {magnet won't stick)... fyi, it's 48” OVERALL, including the end fittings... nice! Great price, less than $4/ft! Nicely welded.. Gonna use it to hang a large staghorn fern from a tree...

I use this chain to weigh down food I cook Sous Vide. This is where you vacuum pack food and cook it in a water bath at low temperatures for many hours. Any air or rendering fat giving off gas bubbles will expand and the food can float. This doesn’t rust stays clean and can be arranged anyway needed to hold down the food.

Excellent choice for my 18' Grady Sportsman. Lightweight but well made. Looks great and works well Am trying to purchase an additional one.Followup: Have used for the past boating season. Working terrific with lightweight Alum Danforth type anchor. Was happy to find it in stock again and just ordered a second one to use for a lite weight stern anchor....

Ahoy!This is the third one of these chains I own. Great for setting up our anchors for our 21’ sloop. Excellent price point ; far better than what you’d pay at any “marine” supplier.
