Chain Reaction: A Perfect Chemistry Novel Hardcover – August 16, 2011

This series has a little bit of a West Side story to it. All 3 books revolve around a division in ethnicity and class. The boys are from the wrong side of the tracks and are involved with gang activity. If you enjoyed West Side Story or other books in that topic then you will love this series. Although there is more of a love story to Elkeles work.First of all Luis isn't my favorite Fuentes by far however I think this is probably the best book of the series. Luis is a great lead but I found that he wasn't quite as intense as Alex and Carlos. He still has his moments and some emotions still have that fierce intensity but overall he doesn't live life as passionately as his brothers. Then he meets Nikki and she brings out his intensity.Nikki was by far the most interesting love interest in the series. She has gone through so much prior to meeting Luis that she has a lot more depth from the first chapter. She is a very strong girl and has sustained a good amount of hurt. At times as a reader you might want to shove her along to heal but it makes for a great story.The plot of this book is surprising. I don't want to ruin it but I was dumbfounded about ¾ of the way through the book at the curveball we are thrown. There are so many issues that this book addresses and the others simply dance around. It isn't just a love story but a coming of age/healing story for both of the main characters.This was by far my favorite book even though Alex and Britney are my favorite couple. I give this one a 5/5. Be sure to check out the first book Perfect Chemistry if you haven't started the series.

There is something about a bad boy with a heart of gold and those Fuentes boys do not disappoint! Chain Reaction, the third (and sadly, the last) book in the Perfect Chemistry trilogy has everything I came to expect from a Simone Elkeles story. There is romance, action, humor, and heart. Once I started reading, I could not put the book down until I was completely finished. Luckily, I was in the car on a nine hour road trip so I had the time to spend with Luis, who is easily my favorite of the three brothers.Unlike the older Fuentes boys, Alex and Carlos, Luis stayed away from gang life. He is ridiculously smart and did not want to do anything to ruin his chances of becoming an astronaut. Sure, he made dumb decisions sometimes, but what teenager doesn't? But he was also protective of his family, and there isn't anything he wouldn't do to protect them. When he finds out that he has to work for the same gang his brother was in or they will hurt his family, he agrees in a heartbeat. While keeping this secret from his family, he is also trying to win the heart of Nikki. Out of all of the girls, Nikki was my favorite. The girl was everything I would want in a female character. She refused to take any crap from anyone and I loved that about her! The chemistry between Luis and Nikki was undeniable and I loved the sexual tension between the two. They were just so adorable together!What I love about these books is that Elkeles makes me feel so many different emotions. I truly feel for every one of her characters and I would love to go to a Fuentes BBQ and be apart of that family!I'm sad that this trilogy is over, but I can't wait to see what Elkeles has in store for us next! For the record, I fully blame Simone Elkeles for my obsession with the young adult genre. Before I got my hands on a copy of Perfect Chemistry, I thought YA novels were strictly PG rated and the most passionate displays of affection was a line saying, "We made out last night." Nothing was ever discussed in detail, let alone the smoldering way Elkeles writes a love scene. As if that wasn't enough, she doesn't flinch when tackling tough subjects like gang violence and teen sexuality.I fell in love with this series three years ago, and this final installment was just as hot and sultry as the previous two books. Luis, being the youngest, was so much fun. He didn't have the jaded cynicism his older brothers had going into this book. He was a reckless, fun guy who liked to make people laugh. This is what made the revelation about his past all the more saddening (sorry, that's all I'll say - read the book to find out what happens).I wasn't all that crazy about Nikki. I understood she got hurt in a major way by a major creep, but I felt some times she took her mistrust in Luis too far. Towards the end I warmed up to her, but for a little while I thought she needed a good slap. I did, however, adore her friends Derek and Kendall. For some reason I looked forward to any scene they were in.I felt parts of this book, especially the end, moved too fast. I would have liked a little more filling in the Latino Blood storyline and Luis's reactions to what he discovered. I felt that came and went too fast. Then again, it might just be me with a serious case of the Oliver Twists, making grabby hands and begging for some more because I knew this series was coming to a close.It could be argued that Elkeles's books in this series are formulaic. After reading the first, the other two play out the same way, but I went in expecting that. There are no real surprised, but I recently saw on the news that people are almost 40% happier when they read a book or see a movie already knowing how it will end. This book is a classic example of that: I love knowing that in the Simone Elkeles's world love truly can conquer all.

you would think by now the third book wouldn't be as good as the first two but man this book was amazing too,i couldn't put the book down too.Simone Elkeles is an amazing auther.More Drama, Excitement & Romance

Chain Reaction is the sequel to the Perfect Chemistry novel, and it's about the 3rd Fuentes brother - Luis. At Alex's and Brittany's wedding, Luis meets Nikki Cruz. Getting her to give him a chance is Luis's biggest challenge. Nikki lives her life by certain rules - don't trust boys who say " I love you", and never date a boy from the south side of Fairfield. She learned what happens when you don't follow these rules the hard way. But when she lays her eyes on Luis, she's suddenly tempted to break them all. When Luis is pulled by a gang-member to enter the same dark and violent world that nearly destroyed his brother's lives, will his feelings for Nikki be enough to stop him from taking the ultimate risk and decision that will change everything?What can i say? I'll shoot straight to the base. Before i brought Chain Reaction i'v read 1 chapter on Amazon, and guess what i found out? That the main character ( Nikki) is most likely PREGNANT. I don't know why i hate it when the main characters get or are pregnant in a book, but i just DO HATE IT. It seriously puts me off and spoils the whole book for me. Nikki was only like 15 YEARS OLD!!! I was like " OMG, you'v GOT to be kidding me". But something happened about all that pregnancy crap and everything turned out really good. ******LITTLE SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!******( move on to the next paragraph if you don't want to be spoiled)!!!!!!!!!And i know that this sounds really harsh and mean, but i was so happy when she got a miscarriage. ******************************************So as i said, it all turned out good.The characters were realistic and well developed, but in my opinion they could be a little bit more described. I felt like Nikki was a really strong and caring character. She went through a gigantic heartache that changed and threatened her life all at once. Luis, wasn't much different from his brothers, he still felt the need to to protect his family and would do it at any cost. He loved everything that challenged him, and was a very smart student with big dreams for the future. The only issue i had with him, is that he could have been a little bit more understanding.Nikki and Luis make such a cool and awesome couple that i wish they could be real. They challenged each other, and had a very special bond. There were many romantic, hot and funny scenes between them. And the moment they met! THAT.WAS.JUST.FREAKING. EPIC!I just ADORED, that even though the story was about Luis and Nikki we still got to see what happened with Alex and Brittany and Carlos and Kiera. Actually, everyone that we met in the first book, was still in this one as well. There was like this special moment/scene, were they all gathered together and played this cool game. It was so sweet to see them all spending time with each other and having fun.Like all the 2 previous books, Chain reaction didn't luck action and danger. At the end, there was like this fabulous ( action) moment between the 'bad' guys and the 'good' guys.Speaking of endings. I can not believe that The Perfect Chemistry novel ended this way! Like really! It ended right at the beginning of another love story! A REALLY interesting one, one that might actually be better than Perfect Chemistry ( and that's hard). I seriously hope that the author will have some mercy and write another book.Overall, Chain Reaction was a wonderful read, as good as the previous 2. It didn't disappoint me and kept me intrigued the whole way through. I'm gonna miss every character and everything about the Perfect Chemistry novel.Favorite quotes.*****'" Easy girl"He puts an arm around me, holding me steady, as he bends down to kiss me. it's not just any kiss. Am Anfang von "Chain Reaction" war ich sehr skeptisch, da der Klappentext mich nicht sofort angesprochen hat (ich hatte eine ganz falsche Vorstellung von der Geschichte) und sich zuerst nicht dieses bekannte Fuentes-Feeling einstellen wollte, dass ich bei den vorherigen Bänden hatte. Dies lag daran, dass Nikki und Luis ganz anders waren als die Charaktere aus "Perfect Chemistry" und "Rules of Attraction". Eigentlich fand ich das gar nicht schlecht, schließlich haben sich die beiden ersten Geschichten vom Aufbau her sehr geähnelt. Und bei "Chain Reaction" schien die Ausgangssituation ganz anders zu sein. So sind Nikki und Luis beide am Anfang erst 15 Jahre alt, während Carlos und Alex in ihren Romanen schon älter waren. Nikki ist auch keine weiße Amerikanerin, wie Brittany oder Kiara, sondern ihre Eltern stammen aus Mexiko, auch wenn ihre Familie vermögend ist und sie kein Spanisch spricht. Außerdem ist sie im Gegensatz zu Kiara und Brittany nicht fast gänzlich sexuell unerfahren und schüchtern. Letzteres bekommt Carlos am eigenen Leib zu spüren. ;) Gleich zu Beginn des Romans ist Nikki dabei ihrem mexikanischen Freund zu erzählen, dass sie Angst hat von ihm schwanger zu sein als er sich überraschend von ihr trennt, um seinen Aktivitäten in der LB verstärkt nachzukommen.Es schien also alles anders zu laufen, als in den Vorgängern, aber so war es dann am Ende doch nicht. Das Erfolgsrezept aus "Perfect Chemistry" und "Rules of Attraction" wurde auch hier wieder von Simone Elkeles übernommen. Reiches Mädchen, das nichts mit Gangs und Drogen zu tun haben möchte, verliebt sich in einen armen Mexikaner, der mehr oder weniger freiwillig in die Gangszene gezogen wird. Wer also die ersten Bände liebte, wird sicherlich auch "Chain Reaction" lieben.Auch wenn der Handlungsverlauf den der Vorgänger ähnelt, so ist die Geschichte dennoch nicht komplett identisch, da Simone Elkeles Variationen in den Hauptcharakteren vorgenommen hat. Im Prinzip haben wir am Ende also dreimal eine ähnliche Geschichte mit anderen Protagonisten vorgesetzt bekommen, was mich allerdings nicht gestört hat.Luis ist anders als seine Brüder. Er mag zwar den gleichen Hang zum Risiko und Nervenkitzel haben wie Alex und Carlos, ist aber wie man im Verlauf der Geschichte mitbekommt überhaupt kein Bad Boy wie seine Geschwister. Ganz im Gegenteil, für mich er eher der romantische Typ, mit einem klaren Ziel vor Augen: er möchte später Astronaut werden und hat deshalb auch die entsprechenden guten Noten. Im Gegensatz zu Carlos, war er mir auch von Anfang an sympathisch, auch wenn er sich am Ende teilweise etwas dumm benommen hat und damit seine gesamte Zukunft auf's Spiel gesetzt hat, aber es sei ihm verziehen. Hach, die Fuentes-Brüder sind einfach allesamt Herzensbrecher. 'Auch Nikki ist anders als Brittany und Kiara, nicht nur durch ihre mexikanischen Wurzeln. Bei den ersten beiden Roman fand ich Brittany und Kiara einfach viel zu perfekt, auch wenn sie es nicht immer leicht hatten, so wurden sie doch im Prinzip vom Schicksal gut bedacht. Zudem kam, dass die beiden eigentlich keine wirklichen Fehler hatten, sie waren göttinnengleich, dies ist bei Nikki anders. Sie hat nicht nur eine schwere Zeit durchgemacht, sondern sie macht auch Fehler und verletzt dadurch Menschen, die ihr wichtig sind. Insgesamt hätte ich mir zwar gewünscht, dass sie sich noch mehr von Brittany und Kiara abhebt, aber auch so habe ich sie gemocht.Sehr gefreut habe ich mich darüber, dass Mrs. Petersen wieder ihre strengen, aber liebenswerten Auftritte hat. Ich liebe diese Frau einfach, sie tut so als ob sie streng wäre, aber im Herzen ist sie ganz anders. Hach, was wäre die Reihe bloß ohne ihre "zero tolerance policy". ;)Der größte und eigentlich einzige Schwachpunkt war für mich die Geschichte an sich. Sie wirkte nicht rund und abgeschlossen, ebenso fand ich die Liebesgeschichte nicht so realistisch wie in den beiden Vorgängerbänden. Während man bei Alex und Carlos' Büchern gemerkt hat, wie sich die Protagonisten kennenlernen und sich langsam ineinander verlieben, ging mir das bei "Chain Reaction" alles viel zu schnell. Es macht PENG und plötzlich ist die Anziehung da, mir hat einfach die Romantik des Kennenlernens gefehlt. Insgesamt hatte ich auch nicht das Gefühl, dass Luis und Nikki sonderlich viel vom jeweils anderen wissen, dass hat mir im Vergleich zu "Perfect Chemistry" und "Rules of Attraction" gefehlt. Zudem fand ich es schade, dass die beiden zum Ende hin keine wirkliche Aussprache hatten, es werden Dinge angesprochen, die dann aber irgendwie nicht weiterbesprochen werden. Insgesamt hat mich die "Chain Reaction" zwar berührt, dadurch das Probleme nur oberflächlich behandelt wurden, war die Geschichte nicht so gefühlsmäßig mitreißend wie die Vorgänger. Dafür ist "Chain Reaction" aber eindeutig sexier als die Vorgänger. Mensch, da ging es teilweise echt heiß her. Was aber nicht heißt, dass dauernd rumgesexelt wird, aber die Beziehung der beiden ist etwas sexueller als man es vielleicht von Carlos/Kiara oder Alex/Brittany kennt und die Geschichten waren schon sexy. ;)Trotzdem ist "Chain Reaction" ein guter Abschluss für die gesamte Reihe, auch wenn der Band für mich leicht schwächer als die ersten Bände ist. Vielleicht können wir uns irgendwann ja auch über die Geschichte einer der Fuentes-Nachkommen freuen, wer weiß.Fazit:Wer "Perfect Chemistry" und "Rules of Attraction" geliebt hat, wird auch "Chain Reaction" lieben. Trotz kleinerer Schwächen ist der dritte Band ein schöner Abschluss der Reihe um die Fuentes-Brüder, auch wenn ich traurig bin, dass die Reihe nun beendet ist.1. Dieses Buch reicht endlich an den ersten Teil (Perfect Chemistry) heran und nach dem eher schwachen 2. Teil war ich sehr begeistert! Tolle Story, sympathische Charaktere und ein gewohnt mitreißender Stil.
