Wisdom and Magic
This book is a chronicle of events experienced by the author with an active medicine man of the Cherokee Nation. As a displaced Cherokee descendant, it was validating to read of things that my mother had mentioned, my grandfather talked about my great grandmother gathering herbs and making medicine for her children. For those uninitiated, it may seem fantastic, but I assure you, these occurrences are very real!

interesting
I'm fascinated with any info about the Cherokee, especially when it comes from this area of the country, Northeastern Oklahoma! I have relatives there, went to college at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, and lived around the area the author talks about in the book. I experienced some similar situations while living there and have a deep respect for the ways of the Cherokee. Wahdoh, Little Bear.

A wonderful look into the life of a Cherokee Medicine Man
Thank you so much for writing this book, Mr. Conley. I have just started getting back in touch with my Cherokee roots. This was a perfect starting point. It is so heart-warming to read about a kind and loving spirit who dedicates his life to helping others. The lessons contained in the book should be learned by all. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher and example, John Little Bear.

Authentic and insightful
Robert Conley, the master of the Cherokee story, has done it again. This non-fiction work gives us a true picture of a practicing Cherokee medicine man in a down-to-earth manner. I recommend it to anyone interested in accurate portrayals of Native American spiritual practitioners.

Book Review
If you like case studies of people treated with alternative medicine, this is an excellent book. I was looking for something more substantive, how-to instructions, and/or something about the personality of a medicine man. These individuals are some of history's most influential people. They were priests, doctors, nurses, teachers, pharmacists, architects, designers, and therapists. Their lives embodied the most education and skills readily available with no other purpose than the care of their tribe.
