Worked great
I want organic coffee and the Nespresso organic pods are $1.50 each now so I thought I'd give this a try. I used a small box cutter to cut the top off a used Nespresso pod, dumped the coffee, washed the pods and let them dry then filled them with my organic coffee and sealed them up with this kit. I only ran into one issue, and that is, I need to grind my own beans because the coffee has to be fine like expresso grind. Takes some time, but worth the money I'll save.

Saves some chedda, but its kinda pain...
The system actually works, but as I've learned from the 50+ cups I've made: what you save in money, you spend in time and mess. The pro: its actually simple...you take the cup holder base (provided in the kit), put in a clean Vertuo pod (i.e. a pod that you previously made a cup of coffee with, emptied, remove most of the foil & cleaned) , then just fill it with freshly ground coffee, peel off a foil cap sticker (about 100 come in the kit), place that sticker loosely in place over the edge of the newly filled pod (making sure that you put it on fairly straight), take the "presser downer" ring (also provided in the kit) and rotate, making sure there is a tight seal between the foil and cup. Pretty straightforward (after doing it once). However, the negatives are that you have to clean out the old cups (or at least a bunch of them), remove the original foil seals using a box cutter (can be dangerous with a sharp knife and wet hands) and make sure any new coffee you just poured into pod/cup isnt interfering with the seal on the lip of the cup...There's a knack to it but its not super hard, just takes 'a feel'. Coffee tends to get all over the place. It takes time. Its messy. It takes some experimentation to fill the right kind of cup, with the right amount and grind of coffee...Know that pods have a bar code on them that tell the vertuo machines how much water, time & pressure to pump into the pod to make the brew... so the same coffee will brew different with different color & sized pods... I overfilled a couple pods, thinking that would result in a stronger cup, but when I overfilled a pod, it would tend to overpressurize during the brew and blow off the foil, making a bigger mess inside the coffee maker itself. Message to you...DONT OVERFILL THE PODS... but underfilling or using too coarse a grind means watery weak coffee. So, be prepared to play around with different variables. There *is* a solution to the math.My bottom line is that it did save me a few dollars, but the hassle only seems to pay off when I drink a lot of cups...Between the cost of the bulk coffee, the kit cost (a one time investment) and the foil stickers (cheap, but an ongoing cost) , I estimate that I saved roughly 25%-33% of the cost vs. the pre-filled cups...so maybe $0.25-$0.30 cents per cup...that will add up, but it ain't going to make you rich quick...After some experimentation, I now tend to get pretty good cups from store bought, cheaper coffee...If you are a busy mom or dad, or working person...it might not be worth it...but for the 'coffee-a-holic', starbucky guzzler who has more time on their hands but tends to get annoyed at the price of brand named coffee, this might just work for you.

Coffee for about $.20 per cup... and a few simple tips.
When I bought my new Nespresso machine I thought I would be spending $1.20 per cup, which was fine given the quality. But this simple little kit is easy to use and lets me refill pods at about $.20 per cup, which is cheaper that the K-cups I use to buy from Costco ($.10 for the coffee and about $.10 for the replacement foils). Each month I sit down and reload about 75 of these in around an hours time. Here are a few tips I've learned throughout the process.1. Don't obsess about filling the foil all the way. I put in 1 scoop which leaves a little head room so that the grounds don't spill over on the edge of the pod where the foil needs to stick and seal.2. Use the bottom of the scoop to pack the coffee down into the pod. Less motions and it's a good surface for packing.3. Before brushing the pod top off after it's been filled with coffee, simply tap the edges of rubber holder with your finder with a sideways motion and most of the grounds will clear off the surface.4. When you place the pod into the holder, take note of the bump out on the holder where the tab on the foil should align. I find it best to pull the foil off at the tab with my index finder and align it on the bump-out on the holder.5. When you clean any remaining coffee off the top with the brush, don't obsess over every crumb. Get it as clean as you can and cover it with the seal.6. One covered, I turn mine over and slide them back and forth on my counter top to help the seal stick to the top on the edge. If the seal is even a bit loose, when you place it in the machine it will press the foil against the pod surface. I've done 100's of these and never have had a pod blow out because of a faulty seal.Hopefully these points are helpful and make sure to post your own thoughts and findings from your experience!Update:I’ve done a couple of things to speed up the process. First, we no longer tamp down the coffee grounds. There’s really no sense to it because once you toss them they become loose anyways. Second, we went out and purchased a dozen 1 1/2” PVC pipe couplings. The pods fit perfectly within these. That way we can load a dozen with coffee someone can place the labels on them, and then we sealed them at one time. There’s less motions going back-and-forth between the various stages. Here’s a batch of 60 we did in about 20 minutes. Much more efficient!

Perfect fit!
Perfect as expected!
