This approach to sounding out words with consonant blends works well for certain students having trouble with blends.

I was banging my head against the wall trying to get my 6 yr old son to sound words out. He had all the sounds memorized separately, but when I tried to get him to put that knowledge to the test of blending them all together..he was overwhelmed and frustrated. This was an easy, fun transition for him. The pictures at the bottom of each letter or blend help the child to remember the sound they make, and the action of opening the window made it like a mystery/game. He actually called it "watching a movie", and when I sat with him, I was "watching the movie" with him. I'm so thankful for these cards.
