Yagi Uda antennae are directional and inline with the long axis. Every pic shows the antennae vertical. Shouldn't that be detrimental?

I rarely rant in my reviews, but I’m an engineer and so this is an exception. This is not a Yagi antenna. It’s a toy that doesn’t work but kind of looks Yagi-ish. A real Yagi requires a precisely sized and located radiator element, to couple with reflector elements, all of which also need to be of an exact size and location. The existing antennas inside your controller are not designed to be part of a Yagi antenna. The obviously non-yagi sized exterior reflectors do mostly nothing, though if they got the size exactly wrong they would reduce your range. With line of sight and low humidity and with the stock controller, I’ve seen guys easily get 5 km or more from a Mavic Pro or Mini 2. i’ve never tried it with my Mini 2 because it’s illegal in the USA. Even if you don’t care about that, if you’re getting less range it’s because it’s too humid or you don’t have line of sight. The microwave signal from your controller is blocked by anything solid or with water in it. That includes foliage, water vapor in the atmosphere, concrete, steel, even glass. If you have line of sight and low humidity you’ll run out of battery before you run out of range. If you don’t have line of sight and low humidity even a real Yagi would do you very little good. And this is most certainly not a real Yagi. OK, putting away the soapbox now.

How does this work when none of the elements actually contact the controller's antenna, and the metal elements don't contact each other?

This doesn’t work. It actually worsened my sigmas as it blocks the real antennas. Save yourself some money and a bad experience.

Will this work with a hood shade for phone?

Sure....well it works fine on mine. Just look at how the shade fits and see if it would interfere with the antenna.

Surprised at how well it works

I was skeptical of this device but ordered it for only ten bucks. I am very impressed. It took my range from 1350m to 2000m. Helps to point it in the direction of the drone. I have a dji mini 4k.

It really works.

I've been flying my DJI mini 2 SE for a while, and normally, after about 2km, the signal starts to decrease. With this yagi antenna, the signal remained at full level without any fluctuation even after 3km. I think this adapter works as a kind of magnifier for the signal if you have a clear line of sight to your drone. Without sight of view, I don't think it can help with the signal since yagi antennas are directional. I

Fit well, but not for my controller unfortunately

It fit well on my drone controller, but it ultimately blocked the signal antennas from communicating with my DJI Neo. I had to return unfortunately, but would recommend for a different drone controller.

WASTE OF MONEY

Like others I bought this thinking it would actually extend the signal on my DJI Mini 2 thus giving me 30 to 50% greater range. WRONG! Upon testing my signal strength with and without I determined this gadget is only for looks. I was already skeptical about it because there's no wires or power connection, it just simply snap onto the RC controller's antennae. I flew the drone out to it's max distance at about 200' until I had only 2 bars. Then I tuned the drone around and bought it back. Shut everything down and then attached the "extender" and took the drone back up. Got the same exact results with the "extender" as I did without. So I bought it back in and this time took the "extender" off, flew the drone out to the point where I had only two bars, snapped the "extender" on and WALA!!! NOT A SINGLE ADDED BAR. Same damn signal strength. Even when I did all this on the roof of the house I still got the same results. So if you're looking to just add some cosmetics then this will do that but as far as improving range or signal strength....not going to happen. Also, When I had the drone out at the distance where the signal dropped, I snapped the "extender" on and I swear the signal got worst! I didn't wait around to try and remove the "extender", I just brought the drone back to me first then removed it.
