Intuitive Fasting: The Flexible Four-Week Intermittent Fasting Plan to Recharge Your Metabolism and Renew Your Health (Goop Press)

Not sure what all the criticism is about?
For years I struggled with brain fog, blood sugar crashes, and fatigue. I was always hungry and got extremely nauseous and cranky if I went more than 3 or 4 hours without food. The type of intermittent fasting described in this book (where I aim to leave a slightly longer window between dinner and breakfast — about 12 to 14 hours, nothing crazy) has really helped me with these issues and has actually led to me thinking about food/eating/my body/my health a whole lot less. This book outlines the research behind the benefits of a shortened daily eating window while encouraging readers to listen to their body without exception and eat if they get hungry and not force themselves into anything. That's why I'm not sure why it's getting so much hate? There are a ton of books about fasting (I've read many of them) and this one is by far the most lenient, non-restrictive, and considerate of those who may have a complicated relationship with food. I would agree that if you have a history of disordered eating, fasting in general probably isn't for you and you shouldn't buy this book (the author also makes this clear on page 59) but I don't think that means it can't exist for all the other people who might benefit? Almost 75% of Americans are overweight and so. many. people. are struggling with that and looking for a manageable way to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight that doesn't involve obsessing about calories and portions. Can't this book exist for them? Just my two cents.

Book about disordered eating.
Thanks for releasing a book that promotes disordered eating patterns during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

A load of BS
As the mother of a child with a restrictive eating disorder, this book sends all the wrong messages.

Dangerous
There is nothing INTUITIVE about IGNORING hunger cues.

Intuitive Fasting is harmful and inappropriate
What these people have done is take an eating disorder concept and decide to market it as “wellness” for profit. Restricted and disordered eating is not intuitive, and eating less/taking up less physical space does not make someone more valuable. Take this crap off the market please.

Finally-a fasting plan that allows flexibility!
Update: I have had this book and been on the working through it for about 6 weeks. I have really been impressed with this lifestyle change. I didn’t realize how much I needed it! I went really slowly in the process-I didn’t move quite as quickly as the book outlines, but that is the beauty of Dr. Cole’s plan-you have the freedom and flexibility to do what is best for your own body. The benefits go beyond weight loss (but let’s be honest that is an awesome bonus)...a new perspective on how and why and what food I eat, greater metabolic flexibility and no more hanger! I have a greater awareness and feel a sense of control over my food choices, and there is freedom in that! Bottom line-I just feel better. I never really consider fasting before, and now I can’t believe how natural it feels. Read the book, follow your intuition, see results. I can’t believe it was that easy, but it was! Now it feels like a natural lifestyle change and not at all a quick fix diet.Such a gem of a book! It explains the benefits of intentionally timing meals and includes so many nutritional recipes. Dr. Cole’s book is not at all about restrictions and rules-it is filled with flexibility, grace and variations that make this 4 week plan achievable and really reasonable. I am excited to explore how the plan in this book can help me meet my health goals.

This is dangerous, negligent information
Do NOT waste your money or time on this hogwash. Coming from an eating disorder professional (Cole isn’t even a real “medical doctor” btw), this is a good path to disordered eating and dangerous behaviors. Please consult licensed dietitians & doctors, who have actually have experience with food & body issues, and understand the risks of this type of dieting. “Intuitive fasting” isn’t possible. Sorry, Gwynny.

Bad advice!
Despite the lengthy and desperate attempt to tell readers the difference between intermittent fasting and chronic restriction in the description this book still promotes the latter. Restricting is restricting no matter how often one does it, no matter how much "control" one thinks they have over it, and the intervals in which they do it. It isn't safe for anyone to do ever. It is just another fad diet and diets don't work (facts). Zero stars!

disappointed
really disappointing. i bought it based on Dr Cole talking about it on a podcast. i had previously bought ketotarian which was a nice enough book but not for me as it is near vegan and i think grass fed meat are a useful component of a healthy human diet. this book is poor. the science is very basic and covered better in other books and the actual book is small and cheap looking on poor quality paper. again it is near vegan with a few eggs and a bit of fish not as he described in his podcast which did say it differed in dietary content when he discussed the use of grass fed meat.the cheap and poor quality paper does not encourage me to browse the recipes. If you want to buy it opt for the kindle version.

Understanding the body
Intuitive Fasting is a well-researched, scientifically-based, medical way to heal your body. If you follow any of Dr Will Cole work you will know that he promotes healing using food/herbs and natural supplements. This book is full of knowledge and easy to understand. This isn't a diet book, it teaches you about the damage the North American diet does to our health and how we can naturally heal it.
