Truly amazing potential but with serious flaws
To start: I bought this mouse twice, and on both times I have had to return them. Why the four star rating? Because the overall concept behind the design of this mouse is so good that if the issues were patched, it would be a 6/5. There's that much potential. In breaking with convention, I'll list the negatives first (in effect, the two reasons I returned the two mice).1) First mouse had serious issues with LMB and RMB; they were squishy, loose and had an horrific amount of post-click travel.2) Second one actually had quite crisp clicks, but after three days the rear RGB zone (the cougar logo) stopped coming on, whilst the scroll wheel RGB zone remained lit.For over £60, these were issues that I just couldn't look past. What I deemed to be positive:1) Great implementation of the Pixart 3330 sensor. Almost as good as the 3360 but consumes less power.2) No software needed, yet highly customisable: Just as on the wired version, this mouse has a small LED screen underneath flanked by two larged circular buttons. Used in different combinations you can customise:- DPI steps- Lift-off distance.- Polling rate (125/250/500/1000hz)To have the ability to alter your settings whenever you want without even having to turn the computer on is phenomenal to say the least.3) The weight remains just under 100g, which for a full size wireless gaming mouse is fantastic. Before the recent releases of the Logitech G Pro Wireless, it would have even been considered industry-leading.4) Ergonomics. It is a clear ergo design for right-handed use exclusively, yet with pleasant and neutral curves that allow the fingers to sit where they want. The hump is situated just towards the back but is low-rise, to allow for a variety of grip styles. Also: the middle of the mouse is NARROW. Far from being a bad thing, I found during my brief time that it's made in such a way to perfectly axis against the wide back of the mouse; you can pivot and flick so easily. During my brief usage with both items, I was still able to pull off some disgusting shots on CoD and Warface.5) Best scroll wheel I've ever used. Seriously. This wheel is tight, has perfect tension for gaming use and is smooth to the touch. It doesn't wobble, rattle or feel cheap in any way.So with all those positives stated I hope I have adequately explained that, while I did return both mice, I still rate the core concept and design so highly. Both reasons for returning were really down to the silicon lottery and less due to an inherent design flaw (unless the mouse with the crisper clicks was the exception and not the rule). If Cougar do a formal revision, or release an iterative sequel, I will almost certainly give it a try. Of all the mice companies, they have the ergonomics down the best, and this is coming from someone who normally prefers a symmetrically designed mouse. All said, if you take a chance you may be pleasantly surprised, but I'd keep an eye on Cougar regardless - if they can iron out the kinks then they'll have something truly great on their hands.
