This book chronicles construction of a 4x6 ft HO scale model railroad, the Northspur and Tiburon. Despite its small size, the layout offers much in terms of modeling, scenery and operations potential. Topics of interest include: building benchwork, laying track, creating realistic western scenery and developing detailed scenes, all using simple but effective methods. Five switching areas are developed, including a station, log loader, sawmill, wharf, brewery and boat house. A scheme to operate the layout is provided for up to three operators. Plenty of color photos are included to aid the builder and show how dramatic even a small layout can be. Build the Northspur and Tiburon and experience the joy of model railroading in a small space at low cost.

This is a guide on how to build the author's specific layout. Not a guide on track layouts, wiring, train gauges, etc.This book is mainly about scenery, but this is the least important thing for someone trying to design their first layout.This book is of no value to anyone trying to explore a new hobby. And I didn't even find the author's layout to be interesting.

This book is for the HO gauge of trains. I was under the impression that it was for O gauge equipment, very disappointing.
