CompTIA Security+ Study Guide: Exam SY0-601 (Sybex Study Guide)

To pass the exam, here are reasons why this book was all I needed.
Yup, definitely the right book. I’ll give you a few examples why.First, know that the new SY0-601 exam covers new topics. You can go on CompTIA’s website and see the new Exam Objectives. In the beginning of the book, this Study Guide shows those new exam objectives AND maps each one to the chapter where you’ll find where it’s covered. Not just the five ‘domains’ but actually each and every objective and sub-objective. That told me the book covers what I need for the exam, so I was happy to see that. Every little exam topic under the objectives, you can search for – they call them “key terms.”Another thing I found very helpful -the practice exam questions. Actually, there are 2 full length exams. It’s like taking the test (twice) before sitting for the real test. If you can ‘pass’ the practice exams, you can feel very confident about the actual cert exam. That’s how I knew I was ready.Add on to that - every chapter has 20+ questions (17 chapters * 20 questions = 340 questions about chapter topics).I saw there are flashcards, but I didn’t check them out. I’m sure they’ll be helpful to some people. Good for a quick memory game. 😊 It’s one more thing to help.Okay, one more thing - “Exam Essentials” after every chapter. I found those super helpful. They are a very condensed bulleted version of the chapter. If you make time just to read every Exam Essentials – you got an excellent idea of what’s on the exam.In general, - from my experience, I find Sybex Study Guides (these black, red and white ones) always line up best with what’s on the exam. Coworkers who have taken cert tests after trying other guides -they’ve told me the same. So, call me a loyal customer to be fair. But I think these books have earned it.If somebody wants to read fluffy theory, there are other books. But if you want to read what you need for SY0-601, guaranteed you’re going to find it in this Study Guide. If you want to pass the exam, don’t bother taking a chance on another book.

Studied for 2 months. Passed on the first try.
Studied for 2 months. Passed on the first try. 550 question test bank and flash cards. This book will put you in a very good place for test prep. It did NOT embellish on extra information, and kept to topics that were on the test. The ad said (at the time I purchased it) that it included a CD with access codes for the on-line practice test bank. The CD was not included. On the back cover is info to contact the publisher, register the book, receive a log-in code, and access for the on-line material. On-line material is good for one year after registration. Good luck on your test!

Just passed my CompTIA Security+ with the help of this book!
There are a lot of study materials out there and this is one that truly helped me pass. It also come with online access to two practice exams, a bunch of flash cards, and quizzes at the end of each chapter. I paired this with Mike Chapple’s LinkedIn learning videos(you need premium) for a little extra. It really helped solidify what I was learning. At $30 it is well worth it!

It helped me pass the exam...
... so I'd say it was necessary but not sufficient. Also helpful was the book by the same author with exam questions. It isn't enough to know the material, as the exam questions are very tricky. You'll also need some material on the simulation questions, because those laboratory like questions are not covered in this book or the accompanying exam question book.

A Good study guide
This was purchased to help me get a head start on studying for Security +. It's very informative, and tells you, in depth, what you need to know for the Exam.

Book Was Critical to Learn
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked reading about technology + security while studying for the exam at the same time. For the amount of content in it, it's a good price. Using other study materials helps supplement this more.

Very good book for Studying for the exam
I liked how it had example question and the answer key in the back of the book was very helpful in finding out what I missed and why. What could be improved on is some of the paragraphs were wordy and could had just got straight to the point in of trying to write a wordy length tone
