Yes, but remember you are not putting 17 gallons into the container. I have a 5 gallon stir stick from Lowe's that I use to measure the water with. I made a line where I want the level to be and check it once a week. Good luck with your garden. I use a 5" x 5" PVC fence post for my garden. I have 51 plants growing.

From the discussion thread at the link below, you can get an idea of the pH people measure after mixing (it's approximately 6). I use it as-is, without adding anything to adjust the pH.
