The Living Wood: A Novel about Saint Helena and the Emperor Constantine

This author’s writing brings saints’ stories to life, as interesting as any fiction but very edifying. I wish I’d discovered this series when my kids were younger; I’d always wished I could read them stories of saints that weren’t either boring or terrifying. But these stories are so well written and very believable.

Great book! Any thing written by de Wohl is always a good historical novel. Clean and family (all ages) safe! Our family loves to hear them read out loud, a few chapters a night. Makes bed time more fun b/c they are anxious to hear more of the story each night!

Good read, descriptively written.. a bit too much on the war side for me, therefore the 4 stars and not 5.. but you won't be able to put this book down the whole last third of the book! Interestingly presented.. a true story of love, loss, tragedy, corruption and redemption. Flirts with historical events fairly correctly, with some artistic license for this fiction novel. Have also read another of this author's books: The Joyful Beggar, with similar commentary. All in all, a good book!

One of the most fascinating books I have ever read. The way the story has been written gives the read the illusion that you are standing there while these events are happening. Once I read through this book-I immediately downloaded another book by this author.

Beautiful and soul shattering and unable to put it down. Stirred my faith and lifted my soul. I will read this again and again.

Amazing read. Began it on the Feast the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and finished it on the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels. Another de Wohl magnum opus that makes a sinner desire sainthood.
