Lonely Planet USA's Best Trips (Travel Guide)

Love this series of books - we get them for every area we travel to!
We live, work and travel full-time in a motorhome while exploring the USA. A friend bought me a Lonely Planet guide to road trips in the Pacific North West last year and we loved and used it so much we keep buying them for different areas of the country. The books are very well laid out - visually appealing with lots of color photographs, color coding and excellent driving / walking trip maps and suggestions. Also love the trip highlights section which we find to be mostly very accurate - only a couple of places we felt should have been highlights that weren't marked as such by Lonely Planet... This is our go-to book for visiting new areas, handy for trip planning in advance or on-the-go (which is mostly what we end up doing). Much of our preferred way of seeing new places is by driving in our MINI convertible, so Road Trips and beautiful highways/back roads are the things that most appeal to us - this book hits the spot. Well done Lonely Planet!

Everyone takes a road trip at some point....
Planning our cross country road trip And this book is wonderfully helpful! If you’ve read any of my other reviews you know I have a special place in my heart for the lonely planet guide books.... and this one is no different. It doesn’t disappoint! Everyone needs to take a road trip at some point in their life (willingly or not), so why not have this on your bookshelf to pull off just in case? You’ll appreciate it when you need that perfect Instagram photo, that out of the way down home cooking restuarant, or that place to get the perfect kitschy souvenir....

Do not order the Kindle Version until fixed.
According to the product description, you should have the following features available on your Kindle for this guide book:Downloadable PDF and offline maps prevent roaming and data chargesEffortlessly navigate and jump between maps and reviewsAdd notes to personalize your guidebook experienceSeamlessly flip between pagesBookmarks and speedy search capabilities get you to key pages in a flashEmbedded links to recommendations' websitesZoom-in maps and imagesInbuilt dictionary for quick referencingYou get NONE of that. You can't even bring up the settings toolbar along the top to navigate through, make notes, comments, bookmarks, etc. It's also only in landscape mode. It will not toggle between landscape/portrait as you move your device. I have sent an email to Amazon and will be returning and requesting a refund. Per the other review at the time of my purchase, I don't think it's just me having issues.I have purchased a previous Lonely Planet Guide for my Kindle and loved the ease it provided with traveling versus having a physical book to thumb through. I travel all the time and have begun to enjoy the Kindle for this purpose. However, this book is not made to be electronic. I think if you really want it, looks potentially great in hard copy, so I would consider that over the e-version.

Not quite what I was looking for but informative non the less.
Very informative for the areas they have visited. And I love the details for places to eat, lodge, park.....But I was looking for something with more choices in the lesser traveled areas. We aren’t the typical traveler that goes for tours and museums.

Best road trip resources!!
I love this book. After years of borrowing from the library i decided to buy the latest publication. It is easy to read and follow. The book provide a great deal of information on point of interest, distance between locations, and how to maximize and get the most of your vacation. Best way to plan a vacation. My kids talk about these adventures. My 15 year old just used this book to plan our summer vacation.

One of the best travel guides I have ever purchased
One of the best travel guides I have ever purchased, maybe the best. I use it all the time. My goal, now that I'm retired, is to take every trip in this book. You can also do parts of a trip, if you don't have time to do the whole 5-6 days. Highly recommended.

Great trip plans written in an easy to follow travel plan. There planned trips really do not need any improvement by the traveler as they cover all the best locations in the travel area for the number of days that are planed to be used. The plans differ in length and all we have to do is decide how long we want to be gone. Excellent!

Great book, just don't expect a GPS
The book mades for some great ideas, but like everything that comes in book form, it is hard to keep it updated. Well worth the cost

A great book for planning a driving holiday in the USA.
The book gives a lot of good information on routes, where to stop off and what to see. We bought it for our first US road trip, San Diego to San Francisco and the trip was outstanding. Our next will be New England. This is a great book to give you ideas and a US road trip is so easy. One bit of advice, book the car hire and first nights accommodation, the rest you can book as you go using the internet.

Only certain trips/areas covered so no information if you want to deviate off a specific route. good for inspiration but I used it in conjuction with the normal USA guide. If you're only going to buy one book, go for the other one.

Big Range but less detail than expected
Very good as far as it goes but I was expecting more detailed suggestions. For me this gives great ideas but needs to be used in conjunction with other info sources.

great book
this book is very useful for when you are driving / riding around and don't have time to stop everywhere - it is fantastic for those who hate reading tour guides but want to see a lot. Very clear maps and good tips.
