The total package! Old-school craftsmanship
This two-volume set meets or exceeds expectations in every way. The contents are formatted in a formal, old-school style with exquisite typography. The paper feels lush on each page turn. It is a bright enough white that the Wyeth illustrations pop fairly well, without the paper being so white that it's an eyesore to read. The illustrations, of course, are renowned for their terrific study of bodies in action and controlled colors and shadows; first-rate.This truly is a collector's edition. Someone paid attention to all the details. As to the contents themselves, time has already spoken. For me personally, Treasure Island is a perennial favorite. I've never read Kidnapped before this, nor even heard a summary of it. I find that I'm challenged by the slow pace and the assumption that the reader intimately knows the geography of Scotland and the history of how the clans aligned among one another. It's mostly going over my head, and is not the rousing adventure that Treasure Island is.Nonetheless, this is a worthwhile purchase, value-priced. I will look for more from this publisher.

Great boxed set
Love this collectible set of two of RL Stevenson’s most popular novels. Both are childhood favorites that I still read from time to time even at sixty years old. Like comfort food, these are comfort reads. Printing and the presentation are superb. Great color plates from the original publication. If you’re a Stevenson fan, you might like this addition.

Great for the price
The fronts of the covers are very clearly stickers. It does still look nice but I can safely assume that they will start to fall off in the next few years. Other than that. Pretty standard binding. Nice paper used and no damages.

This is a classic for good reason
I was inspired to go back and read Treasure Island after watching the TV series, Black Sails. The main character of the series was Captain Flint, who is referenced often in Treasure Island, but never appears. And I found the show and the classic tale to be a fantastic complement of each other. Treasure Island was fun and fast paced and brought to life the ruthlessness and intrigue of being a pirate during colonial times. And although the language reflected the writing of the time, it was extraordinarily well done. I haven't read Kidnapped yet, but I'm excited to dig into it! I thoroughly enjoyed it. And the artwork by N.C. Wyeth is masterful.

Beautiful editions of Stevenson's great stories
The adventure stories Treasure Island and Kidnapped have long been enjoyed by tweens, teens and adults. The old Scribner Classics offered these stories with illustrations by N. C. Wyeth. This new two-book edition re-presents these stories with Wyeth's classic illustrations in a boxed set that I have put in a prominent place on my bookshelf along with the Abbeville Press edition of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

Beautiful, well-bound book
This 2-volume set is lovely. When I hold these books, they feel like books used to feel in one's hand. You appreciate the craftsmanship of the bookbinder. The NC Wyeth illustrations are printed well. Great set of classics to have on one's bookshelf.

Good edition let down by small format
A decent quality illustrated two-volume set of these all-time classics. Complimenting another two-volume set by Mark Twain issued by Abbeville last year.Unfortunately, with just 23 cm spines, small print and very few illustrations the set is hardly the “perfect” edition. Good, but not more than that.
