My 10 year old daughter loved the book

Christmas present for my daughter that had her in tears, and led to nightmares by page 16. Book is marketed for 4th grade children and above. My daughter reads well, and the reviews seemed mostly positive. However, as a family we found the description of a small girl being bound and chained with blood gushing from her neck to be completely inappropriate for our 4th grade child. Reading the passage seemed to have little or anything to do with child spies, and was just gross and over the top. Perhaps I'm a prude, but this type of subject matter has no business in children's books.

My eight year old was excited to read but found the first couple of chapters a little scary so we put them away for later.

My daughter wanted these from the spy museum, better deal and she loves them.

Horrible nightmares for my 4th grader. She is on the 4th book of Stuart Gibbs Spy School series. (Highly recommend) I thought she would love this. This is so inappropriate. “Blood runs down her face into her mouth”
