Q: Is this the 1075 version or the 1095 version

The newer 1075 Carbon Steel versions are less likely to chip than the 1095 Carbon Steel. These are hardened to a reasonable level so that they hold an excellent edge while remaining tough and resilient under adverse conditions. (I learned this from one of their engineers). This knife should perform just as well as the earlier 1095 Carbon Steel versions. Buy the Ontario Marine Raider Bowie Knife with confidence.

Just shy of 10" this is a solid heavy sharp knife.

Q: How is the knife balanced? Is it blade-heavy like a big chopper, or does it have the more neutral balance of a fighter?

Slightly blade heavy but will work easily for both. I have purchased several to keep and several to give away. The handle is great. Never slips and fit is perfect. It came extremely sharp. It held it edge well hacking through the woods. As I fighter I would put it well above the original combat Bowie's whose handles we're too small. Great buy
