Good Value And Budget Friendly For Beginners
I am fairly new to fishing, and needed a budget friendly combo for freshwater shore fishing so I bought this to try out. The “bite alert” function is ok at best, but the rod and reel themselves were worth every penny in my opinion. For 50 bucks I was happy with their performance when I landed a 40lb blue cat. I will be honest, I was worried about the product when landing the fish pictured, but the pole bent as it should and didn’t break, and reels the drag worked “decently” during the process of landing the cat. I did trash the line it came with immediately, replacing it with 65lb braid. Overall I definitely recommend this combo for beginners who are on the hunt for larger fish.

Great packaged combo not only for beginners but those looking for a great deal.
Fairly smooth reel with a great bite alert ready to use right from the box. Took my teenage daughter out for an evening of catfishing. Landed a 5lb blue catfish with ease followed by a 7 lb flathead less than 30 minutes later.The bite alert is great for night fishing especially. Once the alert is turned on, it takes several seconds of lights and an alarm you would see and hear. Can’t go wrong with this purchase especially under $60 for a descent catfish/Bass combo rod and reel.Pole is shorter than what I prefer but for the price, can easily change out to a 10’ surf rod.No complaints but suggest a great find for those that can afford a catfish combo that will easily land a descent flathead .Good luck

Broke within a month and a half
It performed as I had hoped for about two fishing trips, but a 20 something pound channel cat smoked the reel on my third time out.Normal usage that should have been well within the operational range of this reel- gear stripped and deadlined it.I've emailed zebco to see if they'll replace it and will update my review accordingly. I enjoyed it while it worked!EDIT: Zebco did offer to fix it, but they wanted me to either drive 45 minutes to drop it off at the nearest repair shop, or personally pay for postage to send it in.Either option would have cost a significant chunk of what the reel was worth, so I opted to just call it a bad job and not buy Zebco products again.
