Can this be mounted magnetically?

If you add magnets to it , but I comes with predrilled holes for screws

how sturdy are the 2 "hanging" tabs on back of the bin?

They are fairly sturdy. I have a few full of hardware. The bins are small.

How much weight can the bins hold

I have not pushed it, The most I have in one is ~ 1/2 pound. Limited due to space / the items I'm storing. For sure under a pound should be ok. Not to say they would not hold more weight, just not how I'm using them.

Can the unit stand by itself?

They can sit individually by themselves but to be one whole unit they have to be hooked on a strip attached to the wall. Love ours
