I purchased this grater to solve the two main problems I have always encountered with my box grater– collecting up the shreds that fly everywhere, and hitting my knuckles while grating. This horizontal grater solves both of these issues. Whether it is carrots, or cheese, or lemon peels, the grated pieces are secure in the sturdy plastic container – I can just grate right into it, and the plastic lid fits securely on the stainless top if I am preparing ahead of time. This is especially helpful in my family, because everyone is on a different work schedule. I can grate fresh parmesan cheese for the pasta and salad, put the lid on, and keep it fresh in the fridge for each individual’s use. I find the horizontal grater is easier and safer to use. It is easier to keep fingers and knuckles away from the sharp blades. It is also more sanitary because there is no extra handling of the grated cheese or vegetables; they just fall into the ready-made container. The smaller blade section works well to make very small pieces, almost like a zest. And there is also a cutting blade to make thin slices. All in all, this is a very nice addition to my food prep gadgets!

This has been a favorite in our kitchen and this is our second purchase of this style. We use it for cheese. Love that you can remove the grater and then store in the same container. Top seals well and cheese stays fresh.
