Can you use gasket and silicone together?

I would strongly advise using the silicone. The so called adhesive on the gasket itself is non existent. I glued the gasket on with the silicone and it's been awesome.

Will this work to seal the chimney on a grill/smoker?

Yes. I used it for mine. Actually I sealed every gap on my smoker with it and it’s been almost a year and never had an issue. It’s worked great👍 I also bought the gasket sealer for the doors on my smoker which also worked great
