Part of the Bookshark Homeschooling Curriculum
An easy phoenics book for the Bookshark Homeschooling Curriculum. My 1st grader is going through it easily. There are a couple stories with 'old fashioned' words but it's complementary to the Curriculum.

This may not interest everyone but my son seams to enjoy it. He reads a short story a day
Working through this book with my 6 year old. He's enjoying the stories and making progress. The stories make him laugh and he likes to make comments on what he's reading. This may not interest everyone but my son seams to enjoy it. He reads a short story a day, 5 days a week, then we write out any new sight words listed at the bottom of the page. Great program for kids who know their letter sounds. I appreciate that the stories are written in a way that you have to read the words not just memorize or guess at what the words are. He likes that there is a certificate in the back that he can work towards getting when he's read all of it and he looks forward to being able to read book 2 and book 3.

A Fun Way To Drill Phonics Through Reading
At first I didn't understand that to use these books, you need to treat them like a phonics drill and first read the words from the Word List Book and then read the chapter that has those sounds and words in it. Then the weird tongue twisty rhyming nature of the books bothered me. But then I realized that the nonsensical nautre of the stories was forcing him to rely on phonics to read them. And once we started using the Word Book, his reading abilities shot up. So smart to have a phonics book that is directly linked to a reader. Now it's the easiest book for him to read and he loves the stories.

Using it for my Kindergarten
I've used all three books of this series to help teach my kindergartner to read. In some curriculums, it is used starting at first grade. If your child can sound out words fairly comfortably, they may be able to start these. At the bottom of each story, the book introduces the new sight words that will be found in the story. The stories are actually pretty decent for beginning readers and makes my son laugh at times.

very long multi-part sentences
Much much harder than sonlight's kindergarten books. Seems like too big of a jump.My son is working through this book now, after having completed sonlight's kindergarten books. The kindergarten books were great. As far as I can tell, this book should come next in the curriculum. It is significantly harder than the kindergarten books. The sentences are very long, and don't have commas where they should, and if your kid can't figure out where the commas go, the sentence just doesn't make sence and the kid can't figure out the meaning. My son says they don't make any sense. He is understanding them more with multiple readings of each chapter. Also be aware that there is a lot of text on each page. Basically a whole kindergarten book worth of text for one picture, so if the kid is looking at the picture for hints on meaning, that crutch is gone.

Great!!!
A great tool for teaching your little monster how to read. My 4 year old is over the moon because she can read it! It's great for encouraging beginner readers to read because the stories are phonetically correct and have some kind of a plot that the child can follow. Looking forward to finishing it. It works great with I can read it word list book.

Great 1st Grade Readers
I don't know many homeschooler's who don't rave about Sonlights language arts program and readers. This is why so many use Sonlight, it's a solid reading program with cute story lines. Unlike A Beka readers which are boring in my opinion. This is the first reader for the Sonlight 1st grade kit. My daughter loves reading these.
