Instructions are not great, but GREAT bookshelf for the price
I asked for this bookshelf for Christmas, mainly because I thought the color looked like it would match my weathered dark grey TV stand (which is really hard to find at a reasonable price apparently since I've been looking for MONTHS). When it came and I put it together, I was so happy with the match and the quality of the bookshelf I promptly ordered another. This bookshelf honestly really impressed me. I didn't expect it to be furniture store quality for the price, but it is much closer to that than I ever would have guessed. I've had and put together at least four different particle board bookshelves (and several other pieces like night stands) in the past, and this one is by far the best. It still is particle board, but for some reason unbeknownst to me this bookshelf is so much heavier and sturdier than my other particle board pieces for some reason. It almost does feel like real wood. The back being strudy plastic instead of that thin cardboard that comes with Walmart and Target bookshelves is a huge plus as well. The instructions are not very good and not very detailed, but I've done enough furniture assembly that I was still able to figure out how to put this one together fairly easily and quickly. It's your typical metal pin and wooden dowel goes into the hole, and then you tighten the metal cam on the other piece at the top to keep it together. Honestly, the thing that impressed me the most about this bookshelf was that the metal pins that connect to the cams ACUTALLY HAD HARDWARE IN THE WOOD THAT SCREWED THE PINS IN PLACE, rather than just sliding into the particle board. If you have ever put together one of those Walmart or Target bookshelves, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It makes me feel like this bookshelf is so much more secure and will last so much longer than any of my other bookshelves.I am BEYOND THRILLED with this purchase. I was thinking I was slightly upgrading my crappy college bookshelves, but these were a MAJOR upgrade. I promise you will be so happy with this bookshelf!

Beautiful and sturdy
Really beautiful piece. Easy to put together, probably took me 1.5 hours by myself (33 y/o female). Very solid piece

Pretty good material, connections a little meh
The material it's made of is a mix between particle and OSB board, so it's quite dense and sturdy (obviously not solid oak but still very well manufactured). No board deformation in shipping and no pieces missing. The color and finish is good, simple veneered sides but smooth and rounded well. A nice grey color is a little harder to find than I thought. Size is great for what I needed. Now onto the build...For starters, some instructions are using the wrong diagrams or calling out wrong holes, it's not a complex build so it isn't too hard to figure out (only like 2 types of fasteners). Let me get to the point, the two sides are not actually screwed in or truly connected at all, it's basically pinned. This means that they are VERY prone to just falling out. It also makes it incredibly hard to move the thing as it like moving two slats flat handed and holding them parallel across a wide gap. Really dumb to not have true screws or some type of labyrinth connection. I had to drill in two screws to the middle and bottom shelves (the main connection ones to the sides) and now I have no worries. And finally, the backing. For one, it is skinny and flimsy. It was nigh impossible for me to get it in it's slot by myself (as the sides were not really connected together and would constantly fall out). The middle would bow due to its little cheap plastic holder between the two slats. And once I finally did get it in for the most part, I found out it was actually a little too long so I had to shave it down so the top could attach. All in all, it is a nice looking bookshelf made with decently sturdy materials and feels nice. Haven't had any bowing yet and I put some fairly heavy books on it. I try not to stack up my giant hardcover books in the middle as a precaution no matter what bookshelf I put them to. I would recommend having two people to build just to hold some stuff in place.

Very nice for the price. I'd definitely order again.
Really nice bookcase. My son-in-law put this together in less than an hour. I will say he is very talented figuring things out and he works carefully and methodically. He said it was very well designed and having each piece numbered was a definite plus. He suggests paying attention to the instructions. it is perfect in my spot and I am really enjoying it. Each shelf holds quite a bit of weight and that is important to me because I wanted it for my heavy photo albums. All in all, it is a great purchase and I highly recommend it.

I should have gone to Ikea...
This is one of the worst products I've bought on Amazon. The separate parts look nice enough, and seem to be solidly made. But that's where the positives end. It was a nightmare to put together. Not because the directions were very hard to follow, but because the connectors don't stay connected. As you are putting it together, and trying to align different pieces, they start to come separated. So everything is coming apart as you are assembling it, making one side fall apart as you are working on another. The directions state not to tighten everything until it's basically put together, so I thought that might be the issue. But when I tightened the "screws", that didn't make a difference. I would have returned it, but the process of trying to put all of it back in the box and return it was daunting, especially since everything is so heavy. I also need very specific dimensions to fit in a corner, which are hard to find. I finally managed to get it upright against a wall, very loosely assembled. The only things holding it together are the weight of the books and the fact that it is propped against a wall. And there is still a gap between the middle shelf and the top part of the bookcase, so it looks cheap too. I've had similar pieces in the past from Ikea and Target, for a fraction of the cost, and never had such problems. Extremely disappointing!

Great bookcase Bad delivery
Best price for a bookcase this good quality. Love it after we built it. But the delivery was not so pleasant. First it was delayed then it went to a warehouse without trying to delivery to my house like all other Amazon Prime purchases. We had to find a proper vehicle and go get the bookcase and haul it back home. Never happened to me before, and I have been a Prime member for a couple of years now.

Great shelf! (IMPORTANT INFO ON SCREWS)
This is a very good shelf. The boards are sturdy and the color/pattern is very pleasing. I got 2x5 tier shelves and there was no damage. The materials were well packed and labeled. Very easy to put together!***There's one important aspect of assembling this shelf, the cam screws:The cam screws they use are different than the others. Once slide in, you must screw it to allow the end to expand into the board. This is NOT written in the instructions booklet. I originally gave this shelf a 2 star due to the missing instruction. Unlike the regular cam screws where the holes are smaller than the screws themselves, so the end secures itself when you screw it into the hole, the included cam screws simply sit into the hole until you screw to expand the bottom part. I was too used to the regular way and assumed the holes were drilled too big and gave it a negative review. It did not occur to me to check the original listing for the instruction. The seller kindly pointed out my mistake and now it does its job well! They also promised to add the instruction in the booklet in the future. This is just a heads up for everyone else trying to put this together and potentially having a hard time.

A great bookcase for 130$
I bought this for 130$ a year ago. For that price it is a very good offer. The bookcase is stables, feels sturdy and spacious. I wanted to buy a second one and noticed however they raised the price to 250$. That is a complete joke, you can find bookcases of similar sturdiness and builds for 100-150$ at your local Canadian Tire, Walmart and Home Depot. I wanted to have a second one to match, but not at this price.I also noticed there are very few bookcases on amazon lately and they are all heavily overpriced. You can find similar bookcases in amazon.co.uk for about 60 pounds which comes to about 100$ canadian (which is a reasonable price for a bookcase). It might cost you another 30$ for shipping, still way cheaper than this.Otherwise, get some boards from home depot and build it yourself, will cost about 50$ in materials and will be real wood instead of particle board like most bookcases these days.
