A Very Important and Needed Book
This book brought me to tears because my son has CHARGE Syndrome, just like the main character Moriah. However, this book is not just about that. It breaks down things for people who may not be aware of what living with a disability may be like. It shows Moriah's medical equipment and helps explain it, thereby making it less scary. It is colorful, kid-friendly, and written in easy-to-read poem form. The illustrations are beautiful and catch the eye. There's even a page at the end that has an explanation for all the medical equipment and their functions - so even ADULTS can learn something new!More importantly, there was a page at the end which displayed children of ALL different abilities - blind, in wheelchairs, wearing braces, wearing cochlear implants, wearing g-tubes, etc. - holding hands. It focuses on how ALL children want friends and to be accepted, regardless of ability. It made me cry to see a character with a g-tube and a cochlear implant, because that means that MY son is actually being represented in books. And I've never seen that before this book. This book is special. Very special. All libraries should have it, all schools should have it, all parents should buy it to be inclusive of others, children should read it so that they learn from a young age about those who are supposedly so "different" from them. This book is important. It breaks down barriers. It is so sweet. I am so grateful to the author for making such a special, unique project from her heart.

A lovely read, highly recommended childrens book.
This book is about inclusion of children with special needs. It is written and illustrated in a fun way making it ideal to read to children. Would be great to read in schools to encourage children to say hiya and play with children that have additional needs or equipment they are not familiar with. This book made me smile because although Moriah had lots of additional needs she was also just a regular girl who got up to mischief and took her hearing aids out so she couldnt hear her mum telling her off! A lovely read.

FANTASTIC & engaging book encouraging inclusion, interaction and friendships!
Since this book arrived last week, it has been read over and over again. It has quickly become a favorite in our home. 'Hiya Moriah' shows a world of a medically-complex, brave, little girl. She may seem different than you, since she has some extra equipment to help her breathe, eat and get around. But Moriah's joy and love of life is infectious, she allows the reader to be inspired and curious to see that she loves to play and make friends too. This wonderful book explains it all in such a positive way and also has a great rhythm and flow to read out loud. We will be giving this book to my son's classroom and our local children's hospital. Our 6 yr olds FAVORITE page... shows children of all abilities holding hands with an awesome message to inspire connection and to remember that we are all unique with our own What's This? What's That?"This NEW friend can teach you to see the person on the INSIDE - like my friends taught me."
