Will an alarm go off if a certain sound level is reached? Need this feature for my son.

There is an alarm feature but it is not very loud to hear it if the unit is setup more than 5ft away. When a level is set the numbers will blink/flash for about 10secs to notify you that dB level has been exceeded which i like better than an alarm. Hope this helps.

What do you suggest to mount the unit on a wall using the threaded connector on the back? Is that a standard male camera-style threaded screw?

I used a pair of common push pins. Put the plastic parts in the holes, take a piece of paper and push it onto the pin parts. Use a level to make sure the holes in the paper are level, push in the pins, rip off the paper and hang the meter. 5 minutes.
