Returned, I don't understand the 5 star reviews.
I just got it, so I have this to say:Pros: Packed well, no damage. Cute, well-made, decorative, a nice addition to any kitchen.Cons: As another said, no instructions for assembly or use. Assembly was simple, but use was not entirely clear. I read the questions section to learn how to adjust the grind. The small drawer that holds the ground coffee is unfinished wood, so before using it, I painted it with polyurethane. Oherwise I imagine it would become stained and unattractive. Seems odd for something that holds a food product.I will try it after the drawer is dry and ready, then update the review if necessary. After using: I tried it out. The first thing I noticed is that it takes considerable effort to hold the base down, and it has a somewhat slippery base which makes it that much harder. There is no convenient place to grip it for holding. You can't just press down on the top because the adjustment screw is up there spinning. It takes about 5 minutes to grind two heaping teaspoons of beans, and it's a chore! Now I know why they make electric grinders - for the same reason they make electric washing machines. Who wants to do manual labor? The ground coffee at least stays in the tray as long as you don't overfill it. It also produced a fine, consistent grind.Bottom line, I'm returning it, and I don't understand how the product has so many five star reviews. Imagine a hand crank drill with no convenient handle, would it get five stars when you could just buy an electric drill? I don't think so!Note: I am not a coffee drinker, I bought it for my wife thinking she'd enjoy coffee more. I compared a fresh roasted specialty coffee, ground finely with this device, to pre-ground folger's. I liked the folger's coffee better, it wasn't as bitter. But then I'd rather have diet soda than beer, so to each his or her own.

Looks more like a toy than an antique
Looks more like a toy than an antique, but works OK. Too much plastic, including gears and only does about a scoop at a time. On the plus side it's enjoyable to use after figuring out the best place to hold it steady.

After a heartbreaking morning when my electric grinder finally fell apart because of past mistreatment from a former boyfriend, I decided to go the classic route of a hand grinder. The picture immediately caught my eye because it reminded me of my bonus family's hand crank coffee grinder. Of course, their's is triple the size and grinds coffee quickly with little work. I had high hopes. The "antique" look matches my home aesthetic. So, I was pleasantly pleased when it arrived and took up a wee bit of the little bit of counter space I have in my apartment. However, I was unpleasantly reminded that I am not going to be able to whip out and grind my coffee beans like I use to and will need to plan ahead of time. Otherwise, my neighbors will hear unpleasantries shouted as I try to grind enough coffee beans in time to brew and make it work with seconds to spare.Perks:My right arm is now strengthened like Pop-eye's....my left bingo arm game is strong.I have updated my vocabulary.I have ground coffee beans. My aesthetic ego is pleased.Cons:Tiny compartment means tiny amount ground at a time.My vocabulary has been updated.I look like a lopsided Pop-eye.I sob a little bit every time I wake up later than normal on a work day.Overall, the purchase has been a good one. Do I miss having an electric grinder? Yes, especially, when I am running out the door with my shirts on inside out. However, I can't blame that on the grinder. It's just my own laziness of wanting to sleep in as long as possible.

Very disappointed. Stated in the description as "antique cast iron"
Very disappointed. Stated in the description as "antique cast iron". The wheel crank is cast iron, but the rest of it is plastic, gear works and all.

Very Slow Grinding
This grinder does not have a high output. It takes about 15 minutes to grind enough coffee to make a pot.
