Hard to put down but hard to pick up in the beginning
Very emotional book. My heart breaks for young Anna and not just because of the physical abuse but also at the fact that in this whole world there wasn't one person who set out to find her. SPOILER: I am so happy that she and her "first" (and only) love were able to reconnect and become a loving couple with children of their own. Children that, I'm sure, would never disappear and have no one to find them. From reading Secret Slave I would bet that Anna would leave no stone unturned to find and protect her babies. My great hope is that the family, the WHOLE family, that was responsible for Anna's disappearance and her subsequent horrific treatment over 13 years, have to answer for what they have done to her (and possibly to others, as well). Difficult read, in that my eyes kept filling with tears and I couldn't see the pages. But, a cautionary tale, too. Human trafficking in the United States is on the rise and it absolutely blows my mind! Let's all watch out for one another. Let's all make sure that no one else like young Anna could come up missing with no answers!

A very good biography even if it’s a little far fetched
I’ve read some pretty horrific books about abduction and abuse such as the Cleveland kidnappings, the Jaycee Duggar story as well as the Elizabeth smart story but none of those were as gruesome and disturbing as this story. It’s suppose to be a true account. But as I was reading it a found a few dents in the story. In the beginning it says that dates and times were changed. But it mentions that she was kidnapped in 1987. But there’s a part where she says she didn’t have a cellular phone after she ran away from her dad at 12 years old. If it’s really 1987 then there would be no such thing as cellular phones then. I also find it bizarre that nobody reported her missing. And that Malik probably told Val that Anna was with him. Or Val would of contacted authorities. I also find it bizarre that when she would go to the hospital to treat an injury she used her real name and would use Malik’s address. Also the money from the courts was sent to Anna with Malik’s address that she used at the hospital. Sometimes she would use her Muslim name yasmeen at the hospital. And I’m wondering how she was able to sign the birth certificate for her babies and what name she used for her signature. Wouldn’t the hospital find no record of a yasmeen ? It mentions the hospital referring to her as yasmeen Aziza which is Malik’s last name. Hospitals demand social security numbers and drivers license and medical insurance cards. So I find that odd she could get by under the false alias especially giving birth at a hospital. And yet on other occasions she would use her real name Anna at the hospital which is how the courts were able to send her the money. The family also sounds extremely disfunctional and I have no idea why Malik’s mother would go along with the kidnapping of Anna knowing there are children in the house that went to school and could blabb to their friends and teachers about a girl locked in a room upstairs that never comes out. It seems Malik was using anna’s Body to make money from her. He kept wanting her pregnant just to sale the babies and make a profit. When she couldn’t get pregnant he had her have a surgery so she could reproduce not because he wanted children of his own but to sale them for money. I find it odd that Anna wanted to have his babies and seemed happy to raise a baby in that environment. She didn’t seem at all worried about the babies being physically abused or for them to see to grow up and see her abused and beaten, raped and locked in a room. Did she really want her child locked up with her like a caged animal? And subjected to the same treatment. I would think after so much injury to her vagina she would of had a serious prolapse or died from a bacterial infection. 13 years is a long time to be raped and beaten everyday. I would think after that long Malik would of lost interest in her sexually or would of been bored after beating her up everyday for 13 years. And either killed her or thrown her out. Or sent her to live with another pimp. He couldn’t of really made too much of a profit of of her with so many sexual health issues. There also would of been studs circulating through the house from all the men she had to sleep with. And I’m sure some of those babies weren’t Malik’s but he didn’t seem to care as long as he got money for them. I find this story hard to believe in this day and age. Even with the Muslim culture that Malik tried to hide Anna behind. I don’t see how no hospital staff and police raid didn’t anyone to notice something out of the ordinary. It was obvious that Anna was white and not a Pakistan girl and had bruises and cuts and scars and acted fearful . wouldn't the hospital staff and cops wonder what this girl was doing with these people and why they were speaking for her? If this really happened it’s a crazy story.

Scary but good
This is the scariest book I ever read. I was disappointed at the end that she never went to the police to tell them everything so Malik could be arrested. How could she let him be free to do it to someone else? Other than that, I couldn't pit it down, even if I read it with a gaping mouth and tears in eyes.

Innocence stolen! Emotional & horrifically heartbreaking
First I'd like to commend Anna for her courage and bravery by telling her story about how she endured 13 yrs of brutal torture and criminal sadism.Anna had safety and unconditional love from her great grandmother until the young age of 10. Her biological mother is a narcissistic sad excuse for a mother and her bio dad is even more disturbing.Anna learned how to be strong and survive virtually on her own for 5 yrs (I believe it was Nana guiding her and helping her find courage, strength and endurance throughout this entire book and hopefully to this day). For 13 tragic years Anna's life stopped and was forced into a nightmarish living, breathing he'll against her will. The brutality she was subjected to was sickening and made me wish this book was one of fiction, but sadly, this was Anna's life for 13 years. Her comfort and hope for during those long years was a rug that resembled an outline of Nana, a picture of her long ago love and the short time she was "permitted" to hold her babies. Every aspect of Anna's innocent teenage years were nonconsensually stolen in every way imaginable by her kidnappers entire family. It's abhorrent to think people like that sadistic family have the privilege to take their first breaths. Its more soul crushing knowing that in 2022 this is still happening to women ANF sadly girls all over the globe.Anna's resilience saved her life as no one else was looking for her or brave enough to see the atrocities within that prison she was unwillingly held captive in. The system was different in those days, at least in the USA, despite the differences someone knew she was being abused and chose to stay silent. The entire British system failed this child in more ways than one, beginning when she was only 10.I hope Anna's bravery continues and she can one day face her abusers. The justice in her entire story would be either all the individuals who participated in her torture are dead or if she is the person that slams shut the prison door and turns the key that locks the doors to their forever unimaginable prison of hell!

Finished in two days. Brilliant but heartbreaking! Make sure you have a box of tissues and be prepared for quite graphic reading.

A morbid work of fiction.
The book is written in a very colloquial tone, mainly recouping the sad story of Anna's downfall. It is a good work for those who seek morbidity, though the writing is almost amateur. The ending is trash. But overall, if you seek morbidness, then it is a 'good' read.

Whoa... There is far too many of thse stories that no one knows about!!!
At 1st I wasnt convinced but I stuck with it. Please excuse my grammar & punctuation as I am writing this quickly on my phone but.... This story seemingly slow and répétitive at 1st turns into a long series of dissapointing near escapes as well as a unsatisfying triumph at the end that unfortunatley is the sad truth of what really happend to this poor sister. Horrific on so many levels. I would love to hear about how this girl is doing now... And WHY the police would not pursue the children if this is in fact an actual case of kidnapping, peadophilea resulting in multiple reported births (3) as well as misscarriages ×4?? And handled by the police in England??? Huh?? This girl was hospitalized how many times for broken this? Internal organ injured or shut down that? Falls down the stairs. Broken arms?? Somthing aint right?
