O-M-G!!
So I currently have the Hoover Tempo Widepath vacuum. I've had it for about 5 years now. After weeks of research and reading of reviews, it got amazing reviews, and was definitely in my budget. I also have two dogs. It did (what I thought) was an amazing job. In all fairness, it had started losing suction. I found out it was clogged with dog hair and carpet freshener. I have since learned those powders can be the death of a vacuum.Because I knew my Hoover wasn't quite picking up what I remember it used to (suction power) I began my long tedious task of research vacuums again.I read all the pros and cons, do side by side comparisons and read reviews from multiple sites. I can be a bit of a "research nerd."For my vacuum I look for, obviously review ratings, price, suction power, usability, and weight, then bonus attachments are just that, a bonus. Like I said earlier, I have two dogs, but I also have a 2-story home, and a bad back. Trying to vacuum the stairs can sometimes almost bring me to tears. After comparing a lot of vacuums, from several companies (primarily, Hoover, Bissell, Shark and Dyson) and different price ranges..... I decided on the Bissell 20431.Most Dyson owners had repeatedly posted such things as they loved their Dyson when they got it, but are finding just as good (if not better) machines out there for a fraction of the cost. I also read the same about Shark and am not looking to spend that much on a vacuum. So I narrowed it down to a small handful of Bissell and a couple Hoovers. I really LOVED the idea of the lift-away canister, and that may have been the deciding factor, considering my stairs.I received the vacuum yesterday, and assembled it this morning, like with any new toy/gadget I couldn't wait to try it out. I will add that my floors wer vacuumed with my Hoover, day before yesterday. If you've read the reviews of others, I can't help but echo their same sentiments..... it was awesome to see all that this vacuu was getting, that wasn't even detected by the naked eye, and yet disgusting as well. I had to empty the canister 5 times, because it was so full!My carpet feels softer and fluffier as well. The power cord is super long, and I used the lift-off canister and vacuumed my stairs as well.So yes, first time using it, out of the box today, but I just HAD to share my experience! I seldom EVER write reviews, but I really wanted to after using this.Do your own research for what you are wanting most for YOUR home, but this has the lift-off canister (great for stairways), one of the larger dirt canisters (1L), you can turn the roller brush off/on, PHENOMENAL suction, several attatchments included and relatively light and quiet. This price is decent.I will try and remember to post a follow-up in a month or two and let you know my thoughts on it then, but for now......I LOVE IT!

Pleased.
It fits my teeny broom closet, has all the features I need, is easy to empty, and suuuuuucks up dust and dirt. The attachments do a pretty good job of pulling up hair, but not as good as a tape roller. Still better than my ordinary Dirt Devil (could pick up most fur, but regularly needed some manual help for stubborn hairs) or Eureka Easy-Clean (picked up pretty well, but killed the belt and motor twice in the process), and muuuch better than my cordless Shark (threw it away, it was so useless). The filtration system works well, no discernable dust blows out while vacuuming. Nice long cord, I can clean my whole apt. with only one plug change. No kickback of kitty litter onto my ankles, and no little unsucked piles of the stuff when you lift up the vacuum head on linoleum. Lightweight, I don't have to yell over the sound, and is maneuverable. My only complaint is that a few of the tools fall off the on-board rack pretty easily, and one doesn't even have a place to hook. First world problems, IMO. I'm very pleased with this machine, and hope it lasts.

Gets the job done well
Compact and strong suction on this model. Here are my observations about it. Cons- The machine does not glide over the power cord, and there is No retractable cord. The lift off canister will not stand up alone if you place the unit upright. It has a smaller size dust collection cup.Sometimes dust is hard to knock out from the very top of the collection cup, and I need to use a knitting needle or chop-stick to loosen the dirt/hair. Pros- The footprint of the machine is small so it takes up less space around the house. The collection cup is easy to dump. Powerful suction for dog hair! Love the attachments and they clip on the machine. The Lift-off is handy for vacuuming upholstery and up stairs. The machine is worth the price even with some of the issues since it does a nice job with pet hair.

A PHENOMENAL VACUUM!!!
Whoa! I cannot say enough great things about this vacuum!! We have an indoor, short-haired dog who sheds dreadfully. Add to that a granddaughter who is highly allergic to pet dander- we have an awful combo! We ordered this primarily for pet hair and dander removal and it truly fits the bill! The suction power is phenomenal! It is like a hair and dander magnet! I use it to vacuum our wood floors and my husband says even they look brighter and shinier. I like the removal section that lets me vacuum sofas, drapes, chairs, etc. The Fabreeze filter is a pleasant addition that adds such a refreshing scent when I vacuum. The enclosed dust/dirt tank is wonderful and easy to remove and dump, no bags to clog and replace. I’ll admit, this unit is heavy and may be slightly cumbersome. But hey, so is a jet! But I’d rather put up with a heavy jet that fly around in a paper airplane! I’ve owned several vacuums through the years but I can say this one is by far the best we’ve purchased. All that at a great price, too.

Best vacuum I've ever owned!
I just moved into an old cottage and it requires a lot of catch up cleaning. I bought this because of my cats and dogs, but first because of previous owner's cats and dogs and sons. The first time I used this on the stairs I overfilled the canister. After cleaning it I went back and paid attention and filled it 4 more times on a small bedroom and hall. This machine is light enough for this 64 yr old and powerful enough that the place feels clean. It is incredibly easy to remove the portable canister to do stairs and there is no loss of power.I would wish it was better on uncarpeted floors (more 'one and done') but I suspect there's a setting or button I haven't found yet. I still would not give up this vacuum though. :)

and makes a mockery of my poor, overworked Roombas
Item is as advertised. Vacuum works on my rugs. This is despite my owning a cat that, by definition, must exist in multiple dimensions. It has to exist in multiple dimensions because the cat creates more hair and more excretions than it consumes in food. The extra mass has to come from somewhere, so I can only presume that my cat is the extrusion into this dimension of a black hole.Solar systems are consumed in another dimension, and their mass-energy is converted into cat hair and vomit on my rug. This little blighter gets it all. It's a huge step up from my built-in vacuum, and makes a mockery of my poor, overworked Roombas. Yes, the canister is small, but if you are looking for a "pet friendly" vacuum because you too have a multi-dimensional, physics violating fuzz emperor, this is the mid-range suction system for you.

Great for pet hair
I have a Bernese mountain dog and a cat, both who shed quite a bit. This vacuum is great for picking up the hair and getting it out of the carpet. The detachable portion is great for stairs.

Looks good, but a horrible design flaw.
The media could not be loaded. Do not purchase. All reviews seem to be people paid to review and not real customers. Even though the review guidelines say...Don't include promotional content of any kind or reviews written in exchange for compensation. I have purchased and returned after only 10 minutes of use. To begin with... yes this vacuum is nice looking and the canister removal and emptying is fairly easy to use and was a snap to put together. I have an "old" Bissell PetHair Cyclonic Bagless and it has served me VERY well these past 6 years. I love my vacuum and I always like to encourage companies who have great products. However, as mentioned I used this vacuum for 10 minutes and immediately noticed a lack of suction. This is sold as a pet vacuum and could not pick up litter from a porcelain floor. I have to turn the brush on to clean litter off a porcelain floor? Upon inspection I notice the canister intake doesn't insert into any piece, it just "leans" on a rubber washer type seal. A fairly large gap is noticeable and an obvious loss of suction is the end result. I tested this "connection" by maneuvering the vacuum and noticed the gap gets larger as I moved to the right. Obviously twisting the frame and thus pulling the 2 pieces apart. This is a MAJOR design flaw as there is nothing to hold the 2 pieces together. Pictures included. Remember that this is a vacuum and when I say large gap, we are talking about mm's if that. But for a vacuum that says it has a "Smartseal allergen system helps trap dust, dander, and allergens inside the vacuum" ??? And there are gaps in the thing? Are you serious? Now at this point I say... okay. Hey I am not usually picky and I can fix that by putting a simple tie-wrap or a rubber sleeve. Problem solved.... Not that bad of a problem.... it still doesnt pick up litter on the first try but hey I can deal with that by passing 2-3 times. Whatever.... I empty the canister and place it back on the vacuum. Start it up and WTF? Now I have a loud, almost unbearable whistling coming from the vacuum. Alright lets call Bissell customer service. Super polite and very willing to help me with my problem. I explain that I am getting no suction and that now I have a loud whistling. He agrees that it is KNOWN that these models tend to whistle and that it can be solved by removing the canister and cleaning the seal on the bottom of the canister. Okay that makes sense... so I remove the canister and to my astonishment there is ALOT of litter in the filter and indeed on the seal. ( Pictures Included ) I clean it and tell the guy that, yes indeed the seal was dirty and the whistling stopped. But then I clicked... used this for 10 minutes! And there is litter escaping the canister and ending up in the filter and between the seal. And I am supposed to remove the canister every 10 min and clean out the seal to stop the whistling. No... I inform the customer service rep that I find it disappointing and annoying that they were aware of this problem and still allow Amazon to sell them.In the end I have made a return with Amazon that went really smooth and easy have been reimbursed. I was also told by the customer service rep at Bissell that if I was unable to make the return to contact them and they would take charge of the matter. Which was very appreciated.ATTENTION! This review is more against this specific model rather than to Bissell. I want that to be clear. I am VERY satisfied with my old Bissell Pet Hair vacuum. Its really solid. But I CANNOT RECOMMEND this model.

Meh
I was attracted to this product for the 2-in-1 feature, specifically for dog hair on the stairs. I might have been blinded a bit by the feature because I didn’t really do my homework on the product.Does it suck? Yes and yes, meaning some things about it leave much to be desired and, in a good way, it can really suck up everything you need it to.Out of the box I found the construct a bit cheap. It felt cheap assembling it. The maximum contents level of the canister is very small, like after two minutes of use I had to empty it (and yes I vacuum regularly). It would have been nice to have a retractable cord, especially for a 30 ft cord. Winding it around the posts gets kind of cumbersome. There isn’t a light which is not a game changer, but still a nice to have. The final observation is about the Pet Eraser. What do I really do with this? I guess I need to play around with it. Also, from what I can see there isn’t an attachment option on the vacuum for the Pet Eraser. All in all it works great as a vacuum as far as I can tell. The detachable canister is nice for cleaning the stairs but in hindsight I would have kept my Hoover Windtunnel Pet and purchased some rendition of a handheld vacuum for the stairs. Oh well, lesson learned!
