Step By Step Book 5 Piano Course Edna Mae Burnam Paperback – July 1, 2005

Speaking as a piano teacher, a student came to me already using this series. It was published in I believe 1949 so it is pretty old fashioned in its approach. It works, but I prefer other series.

In the house we have a beautiful Yamaha U1 piano, sitting there collecting dust. I got the piano tuned, and the tuner because my teacher. He started me out with the Step by Step Piano Course book by Edna Mae Burnam and I will say as an adult who knew nothing about playing the piano, or reading music thought this book was a great way to start out. I continued on to book 2 and 3, and i feel I have a really good basis to build on. Book 3 made me feel like I have a decent grasp on basic piano playing, and makes me excited to continue on with my piano lessons.I totally recommend this to all learning to play the piano, all ages young and old.

When I started private lessons for learning to play piano, my instructor started me out with this series. It's easy to follow and can tremendously help you improve your sight reading skills. I'm heading on to college as a music major, but never got to finish the series because I advanced quickly and moved on to more advanced materials. But, I kinda wish I had. This series gives insight to musical terminology that even my instructor hadn't heard of. Learning these things early gives a great advantage to the student. So my goal is to complete the entire series before school starts in the fall. I give this series two thumbs up!

Well worth the money.

Easy to read

I really like these music books, I am trying to teach myself without any instructor and I am making progress. The only thing I would improve on is a few more informational notes to aid the student as you progress through the book, but if you put in a little effort and practice you will be able to play some songs.

My children, 10 and 9, have progressed through this series with this being our current book level. I appreciate the musical methodology that serves as the framework for musical training. I do wish though that the books were sturdier.
