Standing in the Fire: Courageous Christians Living in Frightening Times

- Reminded me that all other (false) gods that people hold fast to are extremely poor substitutes to the one true God
Reading the accounts in this book have accomplished several things for me: - Given me a fresh appreciation for having a loving savior (as opposed to a tyrannical one), who requests nothing from me that he hasn't already given to me many times over. - Reminded me that all other (false) gods that people hold fast to are extremely poor substitutes to the one true God. - Though it may not appear to be the case, there are always people around me who need to hear the good news of the Gospel...it's foolish of me to assume otherwise. - Reminded me what a treasure I've been given...the Bible. It's powerful! Why do I tend to neglect it? - I now have affection for a part of the world that I tended to disregard at best, or have disdain for at worst. There are beautiful brothers and sisters in Christ living in the Middle East, and many others who are desperately in need of the hope of Jesus.

Excellent!
This is real life. Life in a world that hates you because you chose to follow Jesus, but Father God has a plan. Love. Peace. In the midst of it all. And along the way, He gives you words to speak to those who hate you. Moves the hearts of those searching for truth to seek you out. These are the stories of some of those who found Jesus in a world of hatred and what our God did in their lives.Very good book!

Excellent must read
This book is so encouraging and hopeful. It's a must read, especially for the American Christians who wonder as they go about their lives wondering if this American cultural Christianity is all there is. There is so much more to God's kingdom that what happens in the US. This book describes what it is like to be a Christian under persecution, it's scary but uplifting. It points away from the weak, self centered, touchy feely American presentation of the Gospel and shows that it is far greater to really follow Christ.

Love these books
I have read several of Tom Doyle’s books about testimonies of the suffering church in the Middle East. I also bought several which I have given to my grandchildren and other people. They are the best. They do not condemn others who are not missionaries like books from another well known author does. Everyone has a gift of the Holy Spirit which we must use to build up the church. Some are evangelists, some prophets, etc. No one is to condemn the others who have different callings. Tom Doyle is a leading expert on the Middle East. Brother Andrew of Open Doors is the leading expert on persecution around the globe. We all have a part of the Gospel for us to share with others. Read these books and be encouraged about how the Lord Jesus is building His kingdom. He will do the same for America as persecution increase here. We must learn to “ Stand In The Fire”

The Middle East Has A Strong Wind of the Holy Spirit
If you have ever wondered if a jihadist Muslim ever came to faith in Jesus, wonder no more. Osama was a jihadist in Syria. While in a coma, his cousin read scripture to him for 2 1/2 weeks. Eventually, Osama committed his life to Christ. His former jihadist team found out, so they beat him for several days. Then a firing squad took Osama to execute him at the place where executions are done. Read about the amazing way God spared his life.Over a long period, Rashid sent threatening text messages to Farid, an Alawite pastor. Eventually, Farid -- risking his life -- visited Rashid in his home. Read about God working in Rashid's heart.Noor was married to Nabil, an imam. After his regular beatings, she lost faith in Allah. A friend gave her a Bible, and Noor decided to follow Jesus. The following day she told Nabil, knowing that he might kill her.More true stories (using fake names) follow the above. They remind me of Jesus saying "If you love me, you will obey me." These Muslim background believers love God so much that they are willing to die and/or suffer persecution. Most of them are NEW believers. One story recounts how God healed the Druze of major illnesses. Now more than 2,000 Druze are following Jesus.Throughout the years, I have been inspired by stories of people who have taken the gospel to people of other countries. Now I have been inspired by this book of Muslim background believers who -- at great risk -- have taken the gospel to Muslims.

Graphic!
Well, written, amazing stories of Muslim conversions, and very courageous Christians. BUT I couldn’t finish it because the violence and atrocities were too graphic, especially with children. I couldn’t get through it.

Incredible and Challenging
Tom Doyle has done it again! "Standing in the fire" serves as another great testimony to the transforming power being experienced today by those who are counting the cost and surrendering to Christ in the Middle East. Each chapter's hero will challenge you to evaluate your own devotion to Christ and the spreading of His gospel where you live. You will also be encouraged to know how many people truly love Jesus in places like Syria, Jordan, Iraq and elsewhere. You don't have to read Tom's other books like "Dreams and Visions" and "Killing Christians" before reading this one, but if you haven't read those books, you will be after reading this one. They are a great collection for your library as well as great ways to inspire your family and friends.

Very Precious
I couldn't put this down and was excited and challenged by the heroes and situations on met every page, and the sovereignty of God in the midst of the awful situations some encounter today .

Another good book from Tom Doyle
Another good book from Tom Doyle. Its inspiring to read about our brothers and sisters in the Middle East standing strong in the midst of persecution. I daresay that while standing in the midst of the fire of persecution, they are in the very center of God's will and love.

A great book
A really inspirational book. I lent it to my pastor afterward I read it and he also loved it and recommended it from the pulpit. It’s amazing and inspiring to read about the joy suffering believers have in the midst of persecution and also about how persecutors become brothers and sisters. Highly recommend.

A must read.
I loved this book. It really reinforces my faith to hear how people have embraced the Christian faith in such difficult circumstances. My prayers are with them so they continue to pass on the message of love from Jesus.I have ordered and look forward to reading other books by this brilliant author.
