Same Quality, But Far Cheaper Than An Apple Adapter
...Except that Apple don't seem to have one that does this.(I'm guessing they may be thinking that NOT producing one may help drive all of us MacBookworms towards the latest models that include an HDMI output socket...)As you'll probably already have gathered from its earlier reviews, this dongle has proven to be a really effective way to connect HD displays and TVs to any of the ports that were originally designated as "Mini Display", but nowadays go by the name "Thunderbolt".Allow me to digress to give you a little background that I'm hoping may help with various aspects of your purchasing decisions...I buy a latest generation MacBook every four years, on the basis that five years seems to be a "reasonable working life" for my hard-working "road warrior" technology.I then continue to employ the older one as a fully-functional backup, which (touch wood) I've only needed to press into action ONCE, when my operational 2010 MacBook Pro refused to recharge, on the entirely reasonable basis that any further raising of its temperature via charging current would probably have proven fatal, given the uniquely hot 48º C (118º F) ambient temperature of that memorable day. That was 2012 ...and my 2006 plastic MacBook (nowadays slightly limited by its display and Intel chipset not being able to run the latest versions of OSx) not only proved flawless when taking over then, but also "soldiers on" to this day, generally in roles such as a secondary unit for running lighting while my main "Pro" takes care of the audio. This particular PNY adapter ?Naturally, it's of no use with my 2006 MacBook......BUT......It DOES allow my 2010 Pro to remain a fully interchangeable "backup" for my 2014 Retina Display one, including mimicking its ability to drive one of these HD beauties Samsung UN22F5000 22-Inch 1080p 60Hz Slim LED HDTV (2013 Model) for graphic display purposes. You should further be assured by the fact that my PNY adapter shipped promptly and arrived fully intact.

I love it so much I bought 2! Works for Mac, can replace Roku, Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV!
The media could not be loaded. This adapter serves to connect your computer (or similar device) with a "mini" output port (known as the Thunderbolt port on a mac) to an HDMI cable (not included) which can then connect to a TV or projector that has an HDMI-in port. To clarify, this DOES work to transmit BOTH video and audio signal from newer Macs. I have a 2011 MacBook Air, and it works flawlessly every time. For instructions on getting audio to come through on a Mac, see the short video walkthrough I've posted.I use the adapter to connect my MacBook Air to a Denon sound receiver and high quality home theater projector with excellent results. It works without diminishing quality from your computer, and will transmit streaming content a well as your internet can provide it.As for durability, I've owned it for about 4 months, using it 1-2 times per week. I've been careful with it, avoiding bending or pulling it roughly, and it shows no signs of wear. I'm very pleased with the build quality of it despite some bad reviews. This adapter worked so well, I bought a second one for my less tech-savvy parents who wanted to stream Amazon Prime shows to their bedroom's TV (gotta have their Downton Abbey fix). This could theoretically replace the need to buy a device like a Roku, Apple TV or even Amazon Fire TV (Gasp!). Do yourself a favor and save $90 By getting one of these. Alternatively you could consider Google Chromecast HDMI Streaming Media Player.Note: when I say it can replace streaming context devices, I assume your computer has access to services such as Netflix or Amazon Prime which require a monthly fee. The adapter itself has no ability to stream context without a connected adapter, just saying :)

Perfect!
This is a simple and useful item. I use HDMI for everything, so when I purchased my Macbook Air I found myself without a way to attach it to the TV. In comes this little PNY adapter.Price: At under $10 I can't complain. This is a very basic piece of equipment, DO NOT spend $50 on an adapter from Apple or Best Buy.Design: It looks good. Compared to the Macbook Air, which looks very modern and sleek, this looks great. I thought I was going to hate plugging this thing in, but found that it actually looks pretty darn good. Everything fits nicely, very simple design and not bulky.Quality: The cable is very thick and should take some abuse. You can probably keep it attached to whatever HDMI cable you use for the adapter and it will hold up just fine. On the other hand there doesn't seem like there should be an issue with wear over time from plugging and unplugging it. Because of the thick cable and how it is attached this should take a substantial amount of pulling force as well. I wouldn't try and get a Sunday morning workout trying to break the thing, but it should do just fine for daily use.Function: No complaints here. It works as advertised. No distortions. The sound and video work great on both my Macbook Air and PC. I haven't tried it on my iMac, but it seems this cable does it all.Misc: I was really satisfied with how this cable turned out. It was my first from PNY and I wasn't disappointed.I recommend this product to anyone that needs an adapter from DisplayPort to HDMI. This works wonderfully at a fraction of the cost as one from Apple or Best Buy. Get it!
