Dr. No: The First James Bond Film

First class book
What a terrific book on the history of the making of Doctor No. It’s arguably the best I’ve ever read. I hope you proceed with each individual film in the series, Goldfinger and Thunderball next, and now I’m about to read your wife’s work on from Russia, with Love

A great book about the first EON Bond film
This book goes into every aspect of the film from purchasing the rights, writing, directing, casting, what works and what doesn't. It's refreshing to have a Bond aficionado who questions some of the stories/myths told by the producers or talks seriously about the sexism and racial stereotypes in the film. None of this takes away from his love of the film and the world of Bond. There are great anecdotes and quotes from many people involved in the production. A great read and a great addition to books on the Bond films.

James Bond - 007: Where it all started cinematically
Always entertaining, informative and ALWAYS well-researched.There is NO better research writer regarding James Bond - 007, or any other topic he may delve into, than Mr. Chapman.Highly recommended, along with all his other publications

Very dry, boring account
I’ve read many behind the scenes “making of” books in my lifetime, and have been a Bond fan since I was a child. To cut to the chase, it is tough sledding, reading this book. It’s very thin, and yet I can’t wait for it to end. There was a chapter that was almost unreadable, it was so drab and boring. And the author loves the word “aver,” as it appears every other page. By the way, it just means “to assert.”Really sad, as I was excited about this one. I preordered the BFI book on “From Russia With Love” (by the author’s wife, coincidentally), and now I’m thinking I’ll just cancel it!
