Can someone give me some advice as to how to get the split screen? There is no software to download on the LG website for this particular monitor.

Having the same issue. On screen controls for multi window layer format do not work, nor is a download available for the 29WN600-W. I downloaded the suggested 34/38 model software, and it made zero difference. False advertising unfortunately. The monitor works regardless, but missing the feature I wanted to use most for work purposes. I'm using a 2014 mac mini. I'll have to go back to my old monitors to have multiple monitor functionality available.

Does it work with lenovo thinkpad? How do you connect it to your laptop?

Yes. I use it with my Lenovo Yoga X1. It is the best monitor I have ever owned. Plug the HDMI cable on the side of the laptop. If you use a docking station, the docking station needs to support the resolution 2560 x 1080 as well.

What is text quality like on the 29in?

The text quality is quite excellent. I'm in my 70s, & even without my reading glasses, can read the text perfectly, from all the way across our large kitchen.
