Great old to new tech gadget.
Item is as described, didn't realise or didn't read that it requires a power source to operate.

Read the instructions first
Didn't think it was going to work, but then read the instructions! Does the job just fine.

Useful optical to RCA converter
This a straightforward audio converter from optical (S/PDIF) to left and right analogue on RCA. I've used it successfully to connect an LG television to a legacy HiFi system. It doesn't require any configuration and the audio quality is very good. It is powered conveniently from a simple USB power source. Outstanding value!

Worked perfectly.
Needed to link the new TV with the old karaoke machine with stereo aux cables - does the job.

Very disappointing sound quality
I bought this DAC to take the sound out of my HD Freeview recorder box & feed it into my very good quality HiFi system (Audiolab Amp, Spendor speakers). Previously I had used my soundbar fed from the audio return channel of my TV. This introduces a slight delay & a soundbar isn't optimised for music. As I watch a lot of music programmes on TV, I thought it made sense to take the sound out of the HD Recorder box directly, via coaxial digital link into a DAC. I chose this Linkfor DAC as it seemed to have good reviews. All I can say is those people must have cloth ears! This DAC is very poor quality. The sound from it is treble-biased, with a slight sibilance added to speech. Mid range is thin & unenvolving. Bass extension & weight is non-existant. It's way worse than the soundbar. It also introduces a greater delay to the sound than using the audio return output from my TV into the soundbar. That is completely unacceptable! All in all this is a pretty terrible product. The only plus point - it's cheap!
