Q: Can you recommend a phono turntable pre amp for using with this amp please? maybe a couple middle ground if possible

Tbh, I didn’t need a pre amp, because I bought the roberts turntable, (also available on Amazon, and also highly recommended) which has one built in, and which you can bypass if necessary. IMO it’s fine with this amp, and when matched with the warfdale diamond speakers it sounds great.

Q: Is there any kind of boom or thump when powered up? I have vintage horn speakers which will object very strongly to transistor boom at power up.

I haven't noticed any thump. always best to keep the volume level down to start with anyway
