A quality book by a quality writer
I strongly recommend this book. It's well written and informative, but most of all it's engaging. There are plenty of books about golf out there, but they can often seem dry and and a bit corporate. This book, on the other hand, is warm and witty, with plenty of new information and tips. Another thing that helps it stand out is the way it's presented. The illustrations, photographs and general look and feel exude quality. In fact, the premium feel of the book makes it a very good gift for anyone you know who loves golf

A gem of a book.
This book is an absolute must buy for true lovers of golf, The Beautiful Game. Wonderfully written with an excellent and large collection of photos and illustrations of each hole. I learned so much about the art and craft of golf course architecture over many years. Full of very interesting stories about the planning and construction of famous and not so famous holes; plus anecdotes recounting the exploits of the great golfers, whether punching the air in celebration or wanting to chuck their putter in the sea! Highly recommended.

Fabulous
Tony Dear does a fabulous job of describing holes that are not only interesting in the development of golf course architecture, but also play a role in some of the game's most important events and career-defining moments. A great deal of research, clearly, went into The Story of Golf in Fifty Holes.

Better than average, but not great
The reviews seemed to be all 5 star. I found it interesting but not great. At least 25% felt like filler, not something of real importance.
