Fantastic book
This is the best ideas packed book I have purchased in a long time. I have taught children with Sens and autism for years and am now starting an advisory teacher for autism post and I love using new fresh ideas and am always buying resources to evaluate before I recommend them. I will definitly be recommending this book as one of the best to the schools I visit. This book does everything it claims to woth lots of practical ideas as well as advice I love the fact isnt full of jargon or heavy text. It used bullet points to get to the point which is something I do.If you are looking for something with worksheets this is not it as it gives more practical interactive and creative solutions to many every day problems.Thank you for writing it.

One of the most practical and helpful books on ASD that I've come across!!
Since my daughter was diagnosed a year ago, we've had very little help and support, due to lack of funding. Finally, I found this book by chance, and it has tons of practical advice for managing all kinds of issues, such as emotional regulation, 'fussy' eating, processing and focusing difficulties, and sensory issues, to name but a few. I strongly recommend this for parents and carers of children with ASD, ADHD, and PDA. Although it doesn't actually mention pda, it does talk about ways of giving children more control and responsibility over the techniques and strategies used (for those with the cognitive ability), which will help a lot with those with PDA. This book is like having a therapist on hand to help out when you need it the most. Brilliant!

This book gives good insight into it
Very helpful. I have 6 year old with Down syndrome. We were struggling with behaviour. This book gives good insight into it. I am yet to put in practice the strategies but I do feel it will be helpful.

PROMOTES ABA!!
I was so full of hope for this book, it looked really good and seemed to have lots of strategies. However after flicking through and landing on a page about hand flapping I was immediately horrified to learn the book promoted strategies to stop this behaviour. They acknowledged it is helpful for emotional regulation but suggested ways to replace this to a more socially "preferred behaviour". The strategies went on to talk about how to reduce hand flapping through rewarding and training with other behaviours until eventually the hand flapping significantly reduces. They also talked about a child who would sit and fidget with a crayon and how the child needed to learn how to stop this and use the crayon correctly rather than fidgeting with it. No mention of why fidgeting with the crayon is vital for regulation and how its important we promote the fidgeting behaviour AND help them use it for other purposes.I'm not sure if it was the authors intention or not to write this way but after reading the above I felt sick and immediately put the whole book in paper recycling! We should be encouraging and promoting all kinds of sensory regulation, allowing children to hand flap to thier hearts content rather than seeing it as a behaviour to "replace" and play/fidget with anything they like as long as it helps. I was so disappointed and gutted but as an occupational therapist I just cannot abide anything to do with ABA so could not continue with this book. I gave it 2 stars as some of the other suggestions seemed okay but it all felt contaminated after reading the above sections.

This will be at the Top of the list of your resource books!
A must for parents with or without a diagnosis of any kind. This book is filled with resources and activities that are easily incorporated into daily life. Every teacher should have a copy in the classroom. Charts that outline behavior, cause, and intervention would be game changers in any classroom or home. Whether you are an OT or a parent who researches and digs for understanding and resources for your kiddos, this should be at the top of your list!
