Avoid if you're a serious fan of the band.
Decent book for the casual fan but if you're a bit more of a long term fan then there are much better out there, If more time had been taken in editing the book then it would get a better rating. There's loads of detail but the issue is a lot of it is just wrong. Some of the release dates are erroneous, on page 56 when talking about the songs on the Setting Sons album it starts talking about two tracks which are actually on Sound Affects and pretty shockingly gets the date of John Weller's death mixed up with his birth date and that's just a few of the errors. The layout is a bit random which gives it a feel of an upmarket cut and paste job and there are sections like The Jam's 50 Finest (songs), but no explanation on what or whose criteria, this is based on? Rick Bucklers? Ian Snowballs? Is it based on sales, who knows? Then because both contributors are drummers there is an over emphasis on the drums sometimes when discussing the songs, which gets a bit repetitive and banal at times, for example when discussing Burning Sky, we get this piece of enlightenment 'I really enjoyed banging that gong at the end of Burning Sky. I liked the way it rang out too. Gongs are great for that'.

The book is in great condition, and I've read a couple of chapters. Good stuff
If you're a Jam fan then obviously you've gotta read this. The seller kept the book in great condition in fairness to him, and I'm delighted with it.

Poor effort
Loads of info here. Unfortunately, it is so poorly written and contains overlapping text from other books about The Jam, that it is very underwhelming. Unless you can get it cheap I wouldn't bother.

Enough is enough!
As a fan since 1978 (I was 12) there is nothing new or interesting to read here. Everything to be said has been said. Maybe one day Weller may write his own version of events but I suspect the only thing he will ever write is songs & he's right!
