In order to get the full rated pull strength, you have to have a thick piece of metal. For example, I could pull my 150 lb pull magswitch off of my sheet metal tool box, but when I attached it to a 1/2 inch thick piece of steel plate there was absolutely no way I could pull it off. i have NO IDEA. You would need to figure out what TYPE of magnet they use. It is a strong magnet in a small space, so it is probably a rare earth magnet. but some rare earth magnets, like a neodymian, only have a currie temperature of 310 deg C. I have only used it at room temperature.

How strong is the magsquare 600? how hard would it be to remove it while it is turned on? would it break free easily if pried at one end?

Very strong, I’ve never had and issue with it pulling off - I use it to clamp work pieces while welding. Only issue is that the switch it tough to engage at times. Overall good strong product.
