This is a siper not a groover if you are looking for a groover you will need the gv1000 Van Alstine Hope this helps

Q: Will this S-100 tool hold #12 or #24 flat bottomed blades, or only used to cut thin sipes (knife cuts) into the tire ?

It's designed to use these little proprietary snap blades, like the ones you find in an adjustable razor knife. With that said, I used a #1 groover in it & I found that it just want hot enough to easily pull through mud lugs. I know that's not it's intended use & neither would be your idea but, I also found that it was only hot enough to heat 5 if the proprietary intended blades. I would put the advertised 13 in & barley be able to pull it through the lug.. To directly answer your question, idk if it will hold those size blades, I know it held a #1 round bottom, the fact that those are a flat bottom might be helpful. Either way, the more clamping surface that touches the blade, the easier it is to heat. Also, the bigger the chunk your grooving the more power/heat you need & this thing struggled with its intended purpose along with the #1. HOWEVER, I might ad, the rubber was cold & so was the weather so that could of had a impact. How significant, idk. If I was going to groove mudders again I'd go with the intended gun. If I was going to sipe mudders again, I'd flip the blade on the groove gun & do it that way even though its only two sipes at a time.
