The black bit simply pulls out, insert blade push back in.. easy, good blade.

Q: Is the blade or the blade guide stainless steel?

No, neither are s/st, because both parts are highly magnetic. That said, the blades are disposable and you may be able to find s/st blades - but seems totally unnecessary. If you want a tip on the best blades - go for TAJIMA endura, nothing comes close. I have over the past 10 years bought at least 6 of these because I use them to cut everything (also good scrapers). They are the most comfortable to use if you have a sharp easy to snap blade.
