I was looking for something stylish for wine parties. I like the slate look and thought they could work. For the most they do.They do chip. You need to be sure you wash and wipe them so if you use them for food you don't have a small piece looseAlso, if you use it for charcuterie....the oil from salimis kinda stains the slate. So it looks wet even though it is not. It has to be re washed well and dried to eliminate that look. That's why I took away a couple of stars.For the most part though.....it works
