Q: Can I put this up horizontally? Or does it have to be vertical?

It will work installed horizontally however the heavy weight would be difficult to install overhead as an example but it will keep the sound down just the same. Hope that helps.

You would still hear impact noise (footfalls, weights hitting the floor) but it would help with any airborne noise.
