Fast cooking and highly nutritious
I saw a recipe calling for this grain, and was interested enough to purchase. The grains are very tiny and you prepare it like couscous - just pour boiling water over them, cover and let sit for five minutes. They swell up a lot so you get quite a bit of yield from a small amount. The taste is almost completely neutral, reminds me of Cream of Wheat. Can use as a breakfast porridge or in place of a starchy side or pasta. I really enjoyed it and will probably buy it again.

PLEASE HELP
This was rancid. I am trying to find a way to return or get credit and cannot. I cooked it the night it arrived and it smelled so rancid and bad but I had not ever tried it before and so ate some anyway and was sick all night. Please credit!

Fonio is such a great replacement of your typical oats. Not only is healthy and have tons of benefits but is super delicious and it can be used for sweet or savory meals . I am in love with it and I am playing with pairing it with different meals . Fonio is very efficient and can last you for a while since one cup can feed 2 or 3 people . Don’t look any further and make your purchase today . I love Fonio!

Unpleasant Texture!
This Imphex, African Fonio Grain was very easy to prepare and it turned out as stated on the package but the texture of this is almost powdery and really unpleasant to swallow. I think it could be placed in soups or stews and be alright but as it is, we didn't care for it. I added a little butter and some seasoning to it and the flavor was mild and good (although the smell of the uncooked grain is really strange) but the texture is very hard not to choke on. It's hard to describe other than it being powdery. I love trying new things and while I may add this to soup so it's not wasted, I wouldn't eat it the way it is after being prepared because of the texture. The Value is Okay!

Unshelled Fonio
They are without paddy and so small but looks fresh and hopefully my budgies will eat them. I am giving them in a separate dish as well as added to their soft food. Fonio is good to avoid canker in budgies.

Ancient As Claimed
Upon opening the bag, I was hit by a scent that this product was old. This grain was not fresh and had been in storage in who knows what conditions for way too long. The expiration date, listed in the distant future, was not printed on the bottom of the bag as the packaging stated, but was a hastily made sticker attached to the side of the bag. I prepared it according to directions and tried it with several different sauces. It fluffed up much like couscous, and did not have an unpleasant texture. But it tasted the same way it smelled. Old. It tasted like I was eating something that had languished in somebody's cupboard for a year or two past expiration date. I threw it out to my chickens and even they didn't want it. My chickens will go bonkers over any grain, so the fact they weren't interested in this stuff speaks volumes.

Like Malt O-meal
Not sure what other reviewers are tasting, but there is no weird taste, smell, or texture to this. It smells like rice or any grain. Also, the small, dark specks in the grains are from the husks, not "contaminants" like some have claimed. When it comes to the fonio, it's okay but not great. Texturally, it is not like couscous like others have said, but somewhere in between grits and Malt O-meal if you've ever had that cereal. I would probably only eat this as a breakfast/sweet food because it reminds me of Malt O-meal so much and for me, it's "type-cast" as such. If I were to eat it in a savory application, I'd probably do something like a cheesy grits. While this isn't something amazing for me, I am confused by all the negative reviews for things it is not.
