Intentional Relationship: Occupational Therapy and Use of Self

The book arrived on time, was in excellent condition, and was significantly cheaper on Amazon than at my campus bookstore. I strongly recommend that you buy this book if you are in OT school, especially at TWU, because you will use it for several classes. It is easy to read, teaches you about The Intentional Relationship Model, therapeutic modes, and has a self assessment that allows you to determine what modes you demonstrate strength in, and what modes you need to work on. The book also has strategies on how to deal with difficult situations that may arise with clients, as well as insight from practicing occupational therapists.

I needed this for class. Good information and well written but probably not useful after this class (because when you read it once, you pretty much get it). Also, my professor basically covered it all in lecture. I would not buy it unless you are required to take it to class or have a harder time understanding info from lecture- at least for me, using the library copy would have sufficed.

Great descriptions and techniques for describing therapeutic rapport. It helps students look at specific ways to evaluate and improve techniques for relationships by making a subjective experience more objective. As a clinical instructor, I assign readings to students in the first few weeks of internship and they have found it very insightful!

After 30 years "in the business", I rejoice in finding material that is beyond theoretical. This book is grounded in research AND it offers applications in every chapter to help a practitioner in any therapeutic profession enlarge their repetoire of interactive technique. I see it as a great tool to use with interns and of value to experienced therapists who want to challenge themselves to be able to do more.

I was preparing for a performance review at work and read a good portion of this book, and took the self assessment on personal strengths and areas of growth. I've found this very helpful with developing my therapeutic use of self, and thought this was a great book! I wish they had gone over forming therapeutic relationships with patients more when I was in OT school.

this is a great resource for both OT's and OTA's. Very practical and down to earth.

"therapeutic use of self"という作業療法士として基本的な概念を、歴史的な位置づけから、各領域における実践、そしてセルフチェックシートなど、系統的にかつ実践的に整理されています。ただ、スキルとしての印象が強く、もう少し力動的な要素があったほうが、作業療法の深みを表せるのではないかと個人的には思いました。
