HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERVER
I highly recommend this server for 4K video editing for two Macbook Pro's. I'm getting around 700mps-1000mbps with black magic speed test with 8 the 7200rpm drives installed before even trying to install the NVMe drives which supposely really speed up transmission speed.I have noticed that the 10Gbe connection does run MUCH faster than the thunderbolt connection which is kind of odd. I don't think I have it configured correctly as the thunderbolt 3 connection should be faster. Buyers may want to consider the 10Gbe connection option that replaces the thunderbolt 3 connections with 2 10gbe. I like the 10gbe better b/c I can use my computer up to 50ft from the server while the max distance with Thunderbolt 3 is 3 meters which isn't very far for two people to edit that close together. So I would recommend choosing the same server with the 10gbe option instead of the firewire. The 10gbe thunderbolt adapter is $150 more per connection but considering that a thunderbolt cable certified for use on this machine costs close to $80 its not all that much more per connection and you get far faster speeds. I average over 1000mbs vs around 700 on the Thunderbolt 3.HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DEVICE FOR SMALL VIDEO WORK GROUPS THAT NEED TO WORK ON THE SAME PROJECT AT THE SAME TIME. ITS THE LOWEST COST INVESTMENT THAT IS THE FASTEST OPTION OUT THERE. For only two machines its even faster than the "video" server with 4 x ssd slots added which costs over 1k more! EXCELLENT DEAL... THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR SMALL VIDEO EDITING WORK GROUPS!

Read this Review - Serious Defects
Do not buy this unit from Qnap. Mine failed 2 months out of warranty. Bad motherboard and they want 750 plus shipping to fix it. This is NOT unusual with this model. Do a search for the model number and "fail to power on" and you will see this is the biggest issue reported on qnap's forums and reddit. Qnap has not been helpful. I will not buy another Qnap unit again. Synology now.Update:. Qnap has agreed to repair the unit under warranty and seems to be on track now. I would have given 5 stars to the unit normally. I still update this when I get and test the unit and perhaps go up to the 5 stars that the performance deserves.Update: The product performance is very good. They have now agreed to repair it under warranty. Based on this, I can recommend it.

Awful experience--prepare to lose days of your time with no hope of getting your NAS up
I'm holding for Tech Support as a type this. I figured it could be at least one thing I'll get done today, though my plan was to finally, after a week, get my 672XT finally working. I've spent many hours of most of the last 7 days trying to get tech support but after holding for 30 minutes the call disconnects me, with a message that I'll have to call back. So, I start over again, losing my place in line, ad infinitum. When I do finally reach an agent, the call usually drops (they're all working from home in hilly LA, where connections are spotty) and so after ten minutes of explaining my issues (plural) the agents *never* phone me back though I make sure they have my number. And so when I start back at the beginning, after possibly hours on hold, and get an agent again, the first ten minutes of every call is explaining the issue again--they keep *no* case notes. The one time I had a pre-arranged time to wait for a call from a QNAP tech support rep named Carlos, I waited for several hours--he never called.Out of the box my Thunderbolt 3 connection is so flakey that the little voice inside my NAS enclosure (it has a small speaker and speaks my alerts) won't shut up. She just keeps saying "Your Thunderbolt has disconnected". Over and over and over again. I'll sometimes have a full 20 or 30 minutes of "Uptime". Not very impressive for a server that should be mostly always up. After 20 minutes of a solid connection the voice comes back to tell me 20 or 30 times that I've been disconnected. I usually just shut the NAS down when I got to sleep, else she'll just start telling me at random times though the night that the Thunderbolt disconnected again, which wakes me up.Aside from that, I can't get the QNAP wifi card that I also ordered to work right, though this is likely just a configuration issue. I've tried to watch their video tutorials but the guys that made these are in Taiwan and though I commend them for trying, their videos aren't decipherable to my American English ears.I'm almost out of time to return this to Amazon but it looks like I'll be boxing this up and sending it back. Maybe that Synology isn't looking so bad after all.I'm giving it two stars, instead of one, because it hasn't yet burst into flames. But hey, the day is young.
