Animated feature based on the line of toys manufactured by Lego following six ninjas as they strive to protect their home city, Ninjago. Ninjas Kai (voice of Michael Peña), Cole (Fred Armisen), Nya (Abbi Jacobson), Jay (Kumail Nanjiani), Zane (Zach Woods) and Lloyd (Dave Franco), trained by Master Wu (Jackie Chan), are forced into action to repel the daily attacks of the evil Lord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), who also happens to be Lloyd's dad. A recent battle between the forces of good and evil leads Lloyd to call upon the services of Master Wu's ultimate weapon, a cat named Meowthra that proceeds to destroy the city. To stop it, the ninjas embark on a quest to the Forest of Dangers, the Canyon of Death, and the Temple of Fragile Foundations in search of the ultimate-ultimate weapon. Can they succeed in defeating Meowthra and Lord Garmadon once and for all?

Fun movie
Not set in the same universe as the tv show. But it was still a lot of fun to watch.

Boo Lloyd!
Another movie based on lego. Just like the lego movie. And the lego batman movie. This one is based on a lego range called Lego Ninjago, which has a group of high school students who are also ninjas defending their city from attack. This is a slightly different take on the idea and the characters, so is a stand alone production and has no connection - aside from the name and idea - with the tv cartoon show of the same name. Which does though mean that you can get into this without having watched that.It begins with live action, as a boy fleeing bullies finds a strange shop. And a wise and inscrutable shopkeeper [Jackie Chan] who tells him a story...In Lego Ninjago city, the place is under constant attack the forces of Lord Garmadon, who is trying to take it over. High school student Lloyd who lives there just happens to be Lord Garmadon's son. Not that said Lord is aware of it. Although all the people are. And Lloyd bears the stick he gets as a result with good grace. Not least because he is also one of the team of ninjas who control giant robots that are the only line of defence. All Lloyd wants is for his father to be a proper dad to him. Both of them have a lot to learn...So long as you don't mind this being different from the tv show, then this is a fun and colourful enough film to keep the kids quiet. For grown ups who enjoyed the other two Lego movies, you will have read reviews which said this wasn't on a par with them. But it's actually better than those said. It doesn't quite reach the heights of those two films - hence the four star review - because whilst Lloyd is a strong and likeable character, and Jackie Chan in his two roles does manage some good comedy, all but one of the other supporting characters are rather one note creations. Also whilst it does take Lloyd and his dad on a good character journey, it does get a bit too syrupy at a point. But for the bulk of it, this does have the same sharp visual and verbal humour - and watch the film titles in the ninja montage as they are brilliant if you know the genre - that made those two something the adults could love as well. So not quite on a par with them. But definitely worth four stars. It is a fun watch. There is an outtake in the middle of the end credits, which shows Jackie Chan's dexterity. So keep watching for it.The dvd has the usual flyer with code for downloading a copy of it onto a digital device. It begins with a video game trailer once loaded, which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote.Only extras are three deleted scenes. Which can be watched individually or all in a row. They all have an introduction from the director. They run three two and two minutes respectively. They're all funny. And worth a watch.
