Blackest black ever!
This is the blackest pencil ever! Whenever I finish my pastel drawings, I go over the areas I want to darken the black I already have on there and this does the trick. Amazing!

Blackest black pencil
My art teacher recommended this particular pencil. If you want the blackest pencil for pastel drawing, this is the one to buy. Most of the black pastel pencils next to the Cretacolor pencil appear to be dark gray. I can certainly see the difference and I’m glad I purchased this one.

Beautiful dark black, but need sharpest blade and a light touch to sharpen
These are the darkest black I've ever used and go on like butter. I've changed my initial review after my husband showed me a sharpening trick with a super sharp box cutter blade. They can be sharpened, you just have to be very careful to put only the lightest pressure on the tip and use the sharpest blade you have.

Impossible to sharpen
Looking forward to have a good dark black chalk pencil. As soon as it needed sharpening that was the end of the pencil. Wouldn't sharpen with a top quality pencil sharpener, so tried the Stanley knife. Just as bad. The wood surround the chalk split all the way down, (so dry, I guess) and the chalk just kept breaking. Definitely don't recommend.

Won’t hold a point!
I bought this EXPENSIVE pencil to draw outlines that can be removed with water. It arrived with a broken point, so I needed to sharpen it. Using a small, hand held sharpener and alternatively an electric one, I couldn’t achieve a decent point. Every time you sharpen this pencil, the point breaks and you’re grinding away a considerable amount of money, so I can assure you that I was very careful. I wouldn’t buy this pencil again.
