Gentle, But Powerful
This is a little different than the type of shower head I'm used to. Overall I like it, and I think it's still growing on me as I get used to it, but there's also still room for improvement. Great product for the price though, and I'd think this product would do especially well as-is for kids or pets. The design of this shower head is nice and modern, and it looks pretty well-made, though it is visibly plastic (like many of the base-level Moen or other brands offer). It's very lightweight, but not in a way that seems to affect durability. I was a little surprised that mine didn't include a hose - that wasn't an issue as I already had one, but still sort of expected one in the package, if only to ensure it matches. It does include a debris filter, which should help keep it from clogging up.What makes this unique is the tremendous number of apertures, dividing the water into 300 tiny streams. Based on my old shower head, that's about 10 times the number I'm used to. Though the total output is similar, this changes things in a few significant ways.First, it greatly decreases the mass of an individual water jet, and thus the momentum of the water - which gives the stream a very soft and gentle feel. As the water hits, the streams rejoin for a nice soak. I thought my old shower head was gentle, but this is like liquid velvet. I felt just as clean as always, too. For this reason, I think this would be especially nice for young kids or pets who aren't particularly keen on water. It'll also be fantastic for those times I'm sunburned or have otherwise oversensitive skin. The added holes also substantially increase the surface area of water, which means there's a higher-than-normal variability of water temperature throughout the stream. So in a hot shower, the hottest water will be at the shower head, while water further away is cooler. That of course is true of any shower head, but it's amplified noticeably with this one because there's a much greater surface for the energy in the water to transfer to the air around it. This struck me as a bit strange at first, but having gotten used to it I think I like it. It gives me some degree of temperature control just by adjusting the distance from the source. It also means this creates more steam, which may be desirable or not depending on your preference. My mirror is outside the bathroom, so I'm happy to have a nice warm room to towel off in when I'm done showering. The only complaint I have about the performance of this is that it's not a wider overall stream. It's a pretty narrow coverage area (maybe a 2"x3" cross-section), and though it feels luxurious within the stream, it's just not wide enough for my tastes. Personally, I'd like about 4 times the coverage. though admittedly that would waste a lot more water. Please note I'm just talking about making a luxury feel, it's more than sufficient to get the day-to-day job done as-is.
