Viper Vss3000 SmartStart Remote Start System with Keyless Entry

Some days it works flawlessly and I absolutely love it... and some days it's unresponsive and I hate it. Keep getting error messages 12 and 51. No idea what they mean.

I am very disappointed with this product. 25% of the time it says it can't communicate with the vehicle. I live and work in a city with great cell reception. I can stand in the same spot, park my truck in the same spot, and sometimes it doesn't work. I can try it an hour later and it will work. If you buy this system, you better get the key fob option installed too. That way you can at least use that if your close enough. I figured out why they don't give you a trial subscription, that's because you'll find out it doesn't work and not buy it. You can't install this on your own either. You have to be a registered dealer to activate it.

Pros:Got this Viper VSS3000 here on Amazon.com for a MERE $144. Installed it myself in a couple of hours,no harder to install than a normal remote star.....the module that gives it, its cellular comunication plugs into the remote start module, & has 1 power wire & 1 ground wire.Pretty basic My system works excellent, had only 2 times it said cannot communicate ,and we all know our xcell phones once in awhile wont connect or will drop a call.I LOVE the system, and soon Viper will be releasing version 3.0 of the App.. and it will do Alot more, such as start your vehicle by a set time,temp, etc. Do a search on "Smartstart CES" to see areview of 3.0Cons: I wont have a Lifetime warranty since it was not installled by a Viper Dealer, But I am very confidnt with Directed Electronics products, I worked as an installler at an authorised Viper dealer in the late 80's,and my wifes car has a Viper 300 alarm & an add on Viper remote start, that was inslalled 12 years ago in 2000, and has worked flawlessly since. All in all it is an awsome system I would highly recomend, I am thinking about adding a Viper security system to mine.

Fast and great service from the seller, but yet another horribly unreliable product from Viper. I should have known better than to purchase a DEI product.

System works exactly as promised. One thing buyers will want to keep in mind is the value of the key chain remote, if I had it to do over, I would get a model 4000 or 5000. When the car is on, the factory remote does not work and you can not use it to open trunk or unlock doors. There is a delay between when you tell the Viper to start, unlock, or open trunk; this will leave you using your keys if you do not think a couple minutes ahead.

This system only works half the time! It's a wonderful concept but it's so annoying when it doesn't work, even if you have great cell reception. And there's nothing you can do to make it work. I wish they would fix this crap!

The product shipped quickly and arrived as expected. I was concerned because of reviews I had read about the Smart Start coverage being spotty, but as of yet, I've had no problems. Installation of this product is no easy task. If you are not highly skilled with automotive electrical systems, professional installation is highly recomended.

First of all, this device operate on a subscription. It cost $50 a year to function. You will probably need additional equipment to install this device on newer vehicles. I was required to purchase a 100 dollar module to install the Smart Start. The device performs as advertised. That's only if you have a connection with your wireless device. if you do not have a wireless connection on your cellphone off, it is impossible to start your vehicle. Unless you purchase the 100 dollar attachment plus installation fees to get a remote for your keychain. I have had remote start in the past and I will never buy a Smart Start System again. I give it 4 stars because it performs as advertised, but the system is flawed.
